Am in a food rut and am so busy looking after my grandchildren during the day that I just want to flop come the evening. Have become aware of those food services where they deliver all the ingredients plus recipes etc and am wondering whether to give it a go. Has anyone tried one? This is not a plant by their marketing person by the way!

Hi - I have looked at them but decided it was expensive. I've always do online grocery shopping and recently 'click and collect'. I find this SO very useful and can collect it before my busy day starts or at the end. I work out what to buy, check prices/offers and order away.

We have had ready meals from Wiltshire Farm Foods and from Oakchurch. My OH got into this after I had my hip op and he was having to try and feed me. We have also had a batch from a posh ready meals store - can't remember the name. They are useful things to have in the freezer for days when you really can't be arsed to cook - they are not a patch on home cooking of course, but they fill a hole on a lazy day. My OH really likes them - what does this say about my cooking I wonder?

Of course it is worth filling your freezer with ready meals from Waitrose and M&S - they are good.

i tried it a couple of years ago but only for a couple of weeks - the food was good but expensive. I ordered food for 3 days a week so I was eating the same food 2 evenings on the trot. Some of the menus are not worth what they are charging, especially the vegetarian ones.

We order the mini meals as we do not have huge appetites - they are usually about £2 - £2.50.

Do you mean those boxes where you get the ingredients for three or so meals and the recipe cards?
They are good for making you try something new you might not have thought of and they do provide everything - even the herbs etc. The boxes we tried had one vegetarian, one meat and one pasta dish I think. If you sign up the first box is usually heavily discounted by about 50% as a trial, from then on they are quite expensive.
They are also good as a one off to send someone as an original present.

If you are talking about ready meals, sorry I can't comment on those.

I've had the odd delivery of Wiltshire Farm Foods. I quite like them but DH doesn't! hmm Their fruit crumbles with custard are gorgeous, but very small.

I think the ingredients ones would be too much of a faff if you are tired and just want to flop. Good quality ready meals (Waitrose? M and S?) might be better. Or ready prepared veg with a chop.

I love cooking but even I like a little lazy break from all the food preparation but I don’t like or eat ready meals. I have had Gousto my son used them a lot when working away from home. They are very good and there are often good discounts. There’s one at the moment actually 60% off first order. Also tried HelloFresh on the odd occasion mainly during lockdown. It saved spending lots of time at the shops and buying more food then I intended. They could be considered expensive but there is no waste and for me ideal portion size. I am looking at Rick Stein meals at home at the moment for a special occasion.

I have regular deliveries from Hello Fresh, my children suggested them to try & get me back into the habit of cooking after I lost my DH. I really enjoy them, some weeks I have a break, especially if I know I’ll be eating out a few times. Although they aren’t particular cheap you do get great offers for the first few weeks and can cancel at anytime. I found they save me money as I have everything I need for my main meal and I’m not nipping to the supermarket buying things on impulse. Only this morning I have placed an order for next week but Ive gone for their Weigh-watchers options this time. They are very tasty and I’d say there is something for everyone. I have heard Gusto are very good but haven’t tried them yet, I will definately give them a go for a change,

I was looking at Hello Fresh this morning after some one recommended it, I might be wrong, because I was just having a quick look at work, but we are a family of six, and their recipes seem to go up to four.
My friend has been sending photos of her meals and they look delicious.

My daughter had hello fresh for 3 days a week.
They really enjoyed them, but when I stayed there I couldn't stand all the fiddling about, frying off this, and reducing that...

One of my friends uses one of these. She's on her own and rather likes the variety and ideas. I don't know what her meals are like but she gave me a garlic bulb that came with one of them and it was much plumper and juicier than the ones you normally get in a supermarket.

Yes. We tried gausto. I wasn’t very happy. Firstly, far too much packaging. I found the serving sizes small and I had to make something else to go with it as my husband was still hungry so fester the purpose

We have used Hello Fresh. We really enjoy the recipes and have found there is plenty of food in fact a couple of times we have had enough for the next days lunch.

I have used Hello Fresh and found the quality very good but, they do work out quite expensive for me. I have now started buying some of the Tesco Finest ready meals, 2 for £6. They have a really good range and are excellent for when I'm not feeling well enough to cook. I think I prefer them to M&S and they work out cheaper

Redhead Our daughter bought us a Rick Stein one last year. It was great. We had some sort of fish pate with sourdough bread and salad to start, steak, beautiful potatoes and veg and a sauce. Then sticky toffee pudding, cream and a bottle of wine. Yum.

I've tried Simply Cook - waste of time, as it's only the spices/herbs to use in the recipes. Nothing else included.

Hello Fresh - I liked most of the recipes, but the portions were small, and the meat wasn't the best quality.

Gousto - loved the recipes, but they became quite expensive when the usual offers weren't included.
