For some time I've been a fan of Lidl's own version of Cornetto, the chocolate and vanilla is lovely, not quite so keen on the strawberry, but that might just be me?

Anyway, at around £1.50 for 6, when "proper" Cornetto's are £1 each when bought singly, you can't go wrong.

However, they have a new flavour, salted butter caramel! Mr P bought me a box as a treat, and they are absolutely yummy!

I had one after supper last night, and I'm rather ashamed to admit that I had another one halfway through the film!blush

My lot love Aldi's version of Magnum. They are called something like 'Lusciously coated Chocolate Brownie de luxe ice creams' and at 3 for £1.49, cheaper than Magnums. DH says they are much nicer smile

grin and bloody good value, too! Wouldn't you agree, Lara ?

LaraGransnet (GNHQ) Fri 13-May-16 16:34:15

This is true! That will have to be next week's assignment. grin

Sorry Lona. But they are that good!

STOP THIS AT ONCE!! I'M ALREADY FAT ENOUGH!!

I am in awe of your dedication Lara grin but what about comparison to the other flavours?

Only last night I FORCED myself to try one of the chocolate and vanilla cones shortly after the salted butter caramel ones, purely so that I could give fellow GN'ers the right sort of feedback.

I held back on the strawberry ones, mainly because I didn't have any............

Well, the first two one blush was quite delicious. But in order to give a full and detailed report, it's only fair to finish the rest of the box to make sure they are of consistent quality.

So, Lara after your "diligent research" what were your findings?

Charleygirl Fri 13-May-16 13:14:41

A Lidl is being built close to where I live- thankfully it will not be ready any time soon- I would adore all that have been described. phoenix may I say that you and Mr. p are a bad influence. I do like almond Magnum but they are not cheap.

LaraGransnet (GNHQ) Fri 13-May-16 12:43:04

You're a bad influence Phoenix. grin Having read this thread of course we had to go out and do the research ourselves...

Perleeeese, stop, I'm diabetic and all your recommendations, plus those TVads for Magnum ice creams are driving me crazy.

I REFUSE to read this thread any more. . . . ?

gettingonabit Tue 10-May-16 21:27:19

I've had to stop going to Lidl because I can't walk past the chocolate and pecan/maple syrup danishes.blush.

I never ceased to be amazed at the quality and price of some of the products that the "cheap" supermarkets can produce, Lidl's ice creams and chocolate being just one example.

Their Scottish rib eye steak is fantastic, and consistently good, and the "proper" parmesan is way cheaper than most other places.

Long live choice and competition!

chrisw Tue 10-May-16 20:37:58

Aldi's are v. good too.

pennylope Tue 10-May-16 16:12:39

Lidl chocolate is amazing too and so cheap compared to other brands

patd Tue 10-May-16 15:57:45

Love lidls version of cornettos and admit they are really moresome lol

GrannyGrypton Tue 10-May-16 15:30:58

Try Lidl's almond Magnum lollies too, they're fab as in reeeally fab :-)

sue01 Tue 10-May-16 14:50:45

I discovered Hagen Daz salted caramel ice cream last weekend... and have only just recovered the power of speech !! It is beyond delicious !!

Craftycat Tue 10-May-16 13:48:58

Try Morrisons version of Cornetto too. It's the only thing I go in there for- except their Flat Iron steaks.

Blinko Tue 10-May-16 13:03:24

Oh, it's chocolate Heaven you're talking about! I can go with that. Must try these....

mischief Tue 10-May-16 11:10:54

The one I can't stop eating is Lidls Pistachio lollies. They are so morish, I can eat 3 on a hot afternoon (at 327cals per lolly, yikes that's a days worth). Good job there are only 4 in a box. They have milk and white chocolate over the icecream with pistachios. I hope the sun comes out sun I've got to have a reason to eat the last one. wink

Lilyflower Tue 10-May-16 10:34:08

Peanut brittle delivers the same delicious combination of 'evil':- salt and sweet.

Katek Tue 10-May-16 09:44:37

Sorry, couldn't answer sooner, mouth full of yummy icecream! grin

phoenix Mon 09-May-16 22:51:02

They are gorgeous, aren't they, katek!

Katek Mon 09-May-16 20:59:14

Happy day indeed! Collecting another box tomorrow........or maybe two......
