Do you eat breakfast?

I never have - just never felt hungry in the morning. For some reason though the last few months I'm finding it increasingly difficult to keep going till lunchtime and the biscuit tin is getting a look in much earlier in the day than can be justified.

Perhaps I need to give it go...

Eggs - in any shape or form. Occasionally porridge, occasionally nutty muesli or toast and marmalade. But usually eggs.

I always have breakfast and have whatever I fancy, always high protein, high fat and low carb. I prefer natural full fat yoghurt and fresh fruit but often have grilled bacon with tomato and/or mushrooms, or very occasionally fish like kippers or smoked haddock. Never have processed cereals because they are so high in carbs which convert 100% to sugar. Have unprocessed oats as porridge very occasionally but never with sugar, always whole milk or cream.

The old adage works well for me:
Breakfast like a King,
Lunch like a prince,
Supper like a pauper.

We are all different and what suits one doesn't necessarily suit another. smile

I have the same thing every day for breakfast and have done for years and years - one Weetabix and two cups of coffee. I don't like cooked breakfasts but if I have nothing at all I feel faint later on in the morning.

I have tea or coffee for breakfast - rarely eat lunch, maybe a small tuna sandwich or a very small ( tea plate size salad) eat a main evening meal with DH and DS at around 18:30/19:00. If I have breakfast I find I put on weight. Enjoy a fry up on high days and holidays, but other than that don't generally eat till the evenings.

I'm with Christalbee on this one - find once I start eating I carry on - but I don't fancy anything at breakfast time anyway. My mother gave up trying to get me to eat breakfast when I was at primary school because I used to be sick mid-morning and the teachers sent me home.

Now I have to eat in the morning because the medication I'm on needs to be taken with food, so I have 50g of plain yoghourt to line my stomach (large pot divided into 10 portions). But I do struggle more than I used to with my weight, and I still sometimes bring it up again.

I hate breakfast and have never eaten it. I dislike most of the breakfast options, fresh fruit, cereal, toast etc. If I do eat anything for breakfast it makes me feel hungry all day long and I end up eating far more than I would normally. It can also have the effect of making me feel sick as a dog. If I don't eat breakfast and just have a cup of coffee or tea, I can get by easily till 4 or 5pm on just drinks, and then perhaps a banana. Dinner at 7pm, and thats it for me. Always done me well, and I am only eight and a half stone and very active for my age which is 68.

I remember reading that people who eat breakfast are slimmer tag those who don't. I love breakfast, fruit, muesli, yoghurt , croissants, coffee, green tea all yum .

Margus if you can manage without breakfast ,do. Fasting is good for T2 diabetics, Go to DietDoctor, on line. All the information on T2, nutrition, recipes , fasting is there. Good luck. It can be done. As I have proved Reversed my T2 in 6 months.

Hi Margsus. I am Type 1 diabetic and have been reading a book called the 8 week blood sugar diet by Dr Micheal Mosley. It is aimed at type 2 diabetics and if followed it can reverse so you need no medication and you can live normally. Well worth a look.

Can't do without breakfast - DH and I do our own thing during the week and It's usually a sugar-free cereal or porridge, I don't like fruit in the morning. On Saturdays we sit down together and have boiled eggs & soldiers with mugs of tea, Sundays is quite often croissants & coffee or occasionally a bacon roll.

I've just been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, but haven't been prescribed any medication as they hope to control it with diet and exercise. I have an appointment to see the dietician, but not for another month!

I never have breakfast, usually having a snack for lunch between 12 and 1 and our main meal at about 6.30, but now I'm wondering whether I should be forcing myself to have breakfast. Advice please!

I like a smoothie: splash of Kent apple juice, coconut water, a few cashew nuts, a banana, blueberries, spinach and then any other fruit that's hanging around. Delicious and filling. And healthy.

I have porridge in winter sprinkled with cinnamon and in summer a bowl of 100% oatflakes with fruit eg blueberries, and almond milk, but I have to eat before having a drink - if I get up really early and have a cup of tea (ginger and honey) my stomach feels full and I don't fancy eating anything for hours.

All the years I was working I only had a coffee for breakfast, but since retiring I enjoy plain yoghurt with some blueberries or banana. I know porridge is good for you, but I feel so full and bloated afterwards if I have that occasionally in winter.

I can remember as a child, having a neighbour who was a scarey hospital matron. My Dad happened to mention that he never ate breakfast. "You wouldn't expect a car to start without petrol would you?" she bellowed "so why try to start your engine without fuel?" My Dad ate breakfast every day after that (2 morning coffee biscuits but at least it was something )!

I have always eaten breakfast - neither OH nor DS can be persuaded, but coudn't get through the morning without my cuppa and either toast/crumpets snd marmalade, fruit juice or cereal. But couldn't be bothered with a cooked breakfast.

Not hungry in the mornings, have a cup of tea and maybe a Weetabix, or a small carton of joghurt,
Everything tastes better later on.

I used to ignore breakfast but a few years ago I read about the benefits of eating a healthy breakfast & the problems that can develop by not!!
I now eat breakfast every day. I have much more energy.
We usually have porridge with extras- oat bran, blueberries, nuts, seeds etc alternated with low sugar muesli with the extras. I have quite a heaped bowl
However I always have a cup of warm water with freshly squeezed lemon juice as the very first thing, and I have a small cup of milky coffee as the last thing. I''ve found this routine gives me energy, keeps me "regular" and keeps me full until 12 ish. No cravings for mid morning snacks etc.

Yes. Breakfast is essential. It always involves protein, usually egg in some form. Never cereal - they're full of sugar. Maybe grilled bacon and grilled tomato, one slice of wholemeal toast, Tiptree marmalade, 2 cups of coffee.

Lunch nowadays is usually late, mid-afternoon. I find after that I don't want an evening meal.

We don't add sugar to anything nowadays. We have no biscuit tin.

I love breakfast - well I love all meals really grin

It seems we 'savoury' girls are in the minority! I can't be doing with cereals, fruit, yoghurt, juices, etc. I have eggs almost every day - today was scrambled with smoked salmon. Typical breakfasts:

Eggs & tomatoes fried in olive oil
Poached eggs & spinach
Shaksuka/Huevos rancheros
Fried eggs and avocado
Ham & eggs

I could go on and on ......

All plus coffee

I too am Type 2 Diabetic also Epileptic so Breakfast is a must (tablets work better with food), I love granola & Crunchy Crisp but as these are full of sugar I now have porridge with a little syrup & blueberries/raspberries/strawberries depends what's available. I can't eat when I get up so have a glass of fruit juice & mug of hot water flavoured with Marmite (not everybodies taste). About an hour later I will have Breakfast - a nightmare if I have an early appointment grin

For the last year or so, I have replaced breakfast with a Nutribullit smoothie.

I bunt all,sorts of sfuff in, usually a handful of spinach, banana, kiwi, half an avocado, blueberries, raspberries

You can do either all veggie ones, or a mixture which I find a bit more Palatable.
You must add some liquid to it, so I use coconut water, but anything you fancy really.

I have also lost a stone in weight, unintentionally, I might add.
I find them very filling as they are usually fairly thick, depending on what's in them.
Give it a go ladies. A good way of getting your five a day too

I think breakfast is the best meal of the day, really look forward to it. I have it about 7, ( always been an early riser always had dogs, no connection there then). I'd love a full English every day but sense dictates an oaty cereal and fruit. Lunch at 12 and then last meal is over and done with by 17.15. Works for me and fortunately for husband too, we seem to have very similar body clocks.
