I've just done my DGS's birthday cake (seeing him tomorrow). He asked for chocolate and it's a plain one because he's having his 'proper cake' (superhero) at his party next weekend. I also did scones yesterday when a friend came round and although strictly not baking have also made this delicious raw cherry and chocolate fudge. Anyone else baking mad since the weather changed?
I do them in the microwave then finish them off in the oven to crisp them up, unless the oven is on for longer for a casserole or something, in which case they go in at the same time.
I suppose I could make a pudding at the same time .....
DH got there first (I am a bit slow at the moment)
Oven turned off, they may dry out a bit more ready for roast red pepper and roast tomato soup!
I do like courgette cake, and ginger cake, and scones, and Victoria sponge, and any really (but not the buttercream on cupcakes) so I am going to leave this thread now.
I don't usually bake (same reason as Teetime and Jalmina, but by mistake instead of ordering 3 courgettes from Sainsbury's, I ordered 3 packs . So going on the internet, I found a recipe for courgette loaf cake - and very good it has turned out to be! I would show you a picture, but DH and I have eaten most of it. I also made a date and apple crumble using the last of our apples on Sunday. It's not been a good week for thighs (or hips or waists....)
I bake a tray bake every week for work that we sell for charity. It also means I can experiment on them with flavour combinations. This week I made Peach Melba traybake. Maybe I'll try some weirder combinations like that lady on The Vicar of Dibley
Nothing as yet - we have tried to be good and avoid cake this week (nearly), but on Friday it will be cupcakes for GS's football team refreshment stall, a Bakewell tart for DH because I've been horrid to him the last couple of days, and a steak and kidney pie for Sunday lunch.
Found some malt in a newly opened health food shop, so I dug out an old receipe of my MILs, which had been past to her through family and made Malt Loaf using Rye flour as I am wheat interolerant.
Went down well with all family members, and was really good with Lancashire or Cheshire cheese! Will have to make Ginger cake tomorrow for DH, it is a popular addition to their Friday walking group.
Apple crumble on Sunday using our own apples and home made crumble. Today I made a fat free egg sponge, easiest recipe ever, it just wants to float away. Filled with top quality strawberry jam and double cream.
Just got back to baking this last couple of weeks following a break of several years.
Peeled all the scabby and bruised apples which DH keeps bringing in. Sliced them up and filled the pan , put it on and then went to clear the condensation in the bathroom. Guess what lots of blackened apple baked on and a house reeking of smoke. Does that count? I'm feeling very inadequate at the moment.
Baked lemon cheesecake sounds delicious Tizliz. And yes cupcakes count Luckygirl! Did you pass off the M&S pie as your own? If so and no one is the wiser then I'd chalk that up as a successful 'bake' .
Luckygirl I made apple crumble on Sunday, own apples, own crumble. Yesterday made a dozen fruit scones ( only because DH doesn't like shop bought ones.)
I NEVER bake except OH suggested that a new pudding for our guests might be a good idea and I made - very successfully - a baked lemon cheesecake on Sunday. Height of sophistication I will be on GBBO soon
