I've just done my DGS's birthday cake (seeing him tomorrow). He asked for chocolate and it's a plain one because he's having his 'proper cake' (superhero) at his party next weekend. wink
I also did scones yesterday when a friend came round and although strictly not baking have also made this delicious raw cherry and chocolate fudge. Anyone else baking mad since the weather changed?

Jalima Wed 12-Oct-16 17:30:09

well, not the same time iyswim - they don't need 3 hours!

Jalima Wed 12-Oct-16 17:29:27

Was that in the microwave or the oven anniebach?

I do them in the microwave then finish them off in the oven to crisp them up, unless the oven is on for longer for a casserole or something, in which case they go in at the same time.

I suppose I could make a pudding at the same time .....

rosesarered Wed 12-Oct-16 17:26:33

grin

Anniebach Wed 12-Oct-16 17:22:26

A potato

Jalima Wed 12-Oct-16 17:19:37

DH got there first (I am a bit slow at the moment)

Oven turned off, they may dry out a bit more ready for roast red pepper and roast tomato soup!

I do like courgette cake, and ginger cake, and scones, and Victoria sponge, and any cupcake really (but not the buttercream on cupcakes) so I am going to leave this thread now.
sad

Oh - is that a Mary Berry type Bakewell tart or the Bakewell pudding you can buy in Bakewell Greyduster?
www.bakewellpuddingshop.co.uk/bakewell-pudding--tarts-10-c.asp
Other shops sell them too

Tizliz Wed 12-Oct-16 17:04:08

Jalima was that beep beep beep the smoke detector going off? grin

KatyK Wed 12-Oct-16 16:59:27

I made some shortbread - it was rather nice and I am not the
world's greatest baker to say the least!

Badenkate Wed 12-Oct-16 16:53:02

I don't usually bake (same reason as Teetime and Jalmina, but by mistake instead of ordering 3 courgettes from Sainsbury's, I ordered 3 packs sad. So going on the internet, I found a recipe for courgette loaf cake - and very good it has turned out to be! I would show you a picture, but DH and I have eaten most of it. I also made a date and apple crumble using the last of our apples on Sunday. It's not been a good week for thighs (or hips or waists....)

Rosieroe Wed 12-Oct-16 16:47:31

Lemon drizzle tray bake so far this week but today I bought some bramleys and plan to make an apple pie.

Lynnieg Wed 12-Oct-16 16:44:42

I bake a tray bake every week for work that we sell for charity. It also means I can experiment on them with flavour combinations. This week I made Peach Melba traybake. Maybe I'll try some weirder combinations like that lady on The Vicar of Dibley grin

Greyduster Wed 12-Oct-16 16:32:53

Nothing as yet - we have tried to be good and avoid cake this week (nearly), but on Friday it will be cupcakes for GS's football team refreshment stall, a Bakewell tart for DH because I've been horrid to him the last couple of days, and a steak and kidney pie for Sunday lunch.

rosesarered Wed 12-Oct-16 16:03:30

Hilltop will you share your ginger cake recipe on here please?

Hilltopgran Wed 12-Oct-16 16:01:17

Found some malt in a newly opened health food shop, so I dug out an old receipe of my MILs, which had been past to her through family and made Malt Loaf using Rye flour as I am wheat interolerant.

Went down well with all family members, and was really good with Lancashire or Cheshire cheese! Will have to make Ginger cake tomorrow for DH, it is a popular addition to their Friday walking group.

Jalima Wed 12-Oct-16 15:59:20

Teetime grin ditto

although I have a tray of tomatoes roasting in the oven - and another of red peppers
oh! beep beep beep

Teetime Wed 12-Oct-16 15:45:39

Good heavens you wouldn't ask that question if you had seen my thighs- of course I haven't baked anything I would eat it- Disaster!!

rockgran Wed 12-Oct-16 15:44:02

Sponge tray bake, parkin and flapjack - some to eat and some to freeze.

Coolgran65 Wed 12-Oct-16 15:38:03

Apple crumble on Sunday using our own apples and home made crumble.
Today I made a fat free egg sponge, easiest recipe ever, it just wants to float away. Filled with top quality strawberry jam and double cream.

Just got back to baking this last couple of weeks following a break of several years.

Stansgran Wed 12-Oct-16 15:06:54

Peeled all the scabby and bruised apples which DH keeps bringing in. Sliced them up and filled the pan , put it on and then went to clear the condensation in the bathroom. Guess what lots of blackened apple baked on and a house reeking of smoke. Does that count? I'm feeling very inadequate at the moment.

Waterdown Wed 12-Oct-16 15:00:44

A lovely moist chocolate and coconut cake - one of the easiest I've ever made, and one of the best!!

LyndaW Wed 12-Oct-16 15:00:40

Baked lemon cheesecake sounds delicious Tizliz. And yes cupcakes count Luckygirl! Did you pass off the M&S pie as your own? If so and no one is the wiser then I'd chalk that up as a successful 'bake' grin.

Alima Wed 12-Oct-16 14:59:17

Not even a potato. Oh good, Bake Off tonight!

rosesarered Wed 12-Oct-16 14:57:37

Luckygirl grin
I made apple crumble on Sunday, own apples, own crumble.
Yesterday made a dozen fruit scones ( only because DH doesn't like shop bought ones.)

Tizliz Wed 12-Oct-16 14:45:53

I NEVER bake except OH suggested that a new pudding for our guests might be a good idea and I made - very successfully - a baked lemon cheesecake on Sunday. Height of sophistication I will be on GBBO soon hmm

Luckygirl Wed 12-Oct-16 14:31:12

Oh - no, wait a minute - I helped my DGD make cup cakes on Monday.

ninathenana Wed 12-Oct-16 14:29:28

I haven't baked this decade let alone this week
