Decaffeinated coffee

I have Barley Cup from Holland and Barrett in my cupboard, for when I fancy something different. It's certainly not my 'go-to' choice for the mornings though! Even after years of drinking decaf I prefer the aroma and taste of coffee to help me start the day, even though I don't get a buzz from it

Have you tried chicory? It's "coffee" made from barley and it's really quite delicious, "Decaf" still has some caffine and the barley coffee has none at all

It's got a slightly malty flavour to it though so I find it makes me sleepy so I only have it after dinner, it wouldn't be my morning "coffee" of choice

Thank you for the help I shall try some of your helpful suggestions but I don't suppose decaf will ever taste as good as a Hot Java Lava!

As one who must have dormouse genes, and an overwhelming urge to hibernate, I'll take all the caffeine I can get just to stay awake.

DH had to ditch the leaded and go on to the unleaded, took ages to find one he liked and in the end it was Lidl's. I was delighted as it's only £1.45 for a 100gr jar

It's only when you stop drinking caffeine completely that you realise how it does keep you awake. No matter how tired I am now, one cup with caffeine can keep me going for most of the day![I mean, awake, not 'going' although, yes, it does do that too..]

I have a bean to cup machine and use Waitrose own brand decaff coffee beans. I've never found an instant decaff coffee that is drinkable, sorry.

I have a small Dolce Gusto machine, and you can get decaffeinated pods for it.

Only have one mug of coffee (at the most) a day and it's Kenco decaf.It tastes fine to me.Have the leaded variety if you enjoy rushing to the loo all the time.

Another cafe direct fan here. They do the Swiss water treated beans which gives a far superior taste with no chemicals involved in the process

I drink around 12 mugs of coffee a day and my heart does not thud.

Too much coffee was affecting my heartbeat, so on Doctor's
advice I now only drink one cup per day, and it's decaf.
To me they are all of a muchness so I buy whatever brand is on offer.You get used to decaf after a while.
It's definitely preferable to horrible heart thudding.

I read on Facebook (I think) that there is a time and place for decaff coffee - never and in the bin! Sums up my feelings exactly, however, I have on occasions tried decaff and have never found one that tasted "right".

Apologies for double posting. Server playing up again. I used to drink coffee all day, but it stopped agreeing with me. Now I can't take more than 3 cups a day, and if I have a cup in the afternoon with someone (don't like tea, and not everyone has fruit/herbal tea) I tend to feel a bit sick. Such a shame, I used to love my coffee!

Leaving aside the ecological issues have you tried the pods ?

I've been on 'unleaded' for years and every so often need to change brands to refresh my taste buds. Carte Noire is quite good and Douwe Egberts. I enjoyed Kenco Millicano when it first came out but it seems hard to get the decaf version now. Taylors of Harrogate do a reasonable ground coffee. Some supermarkets do a good discount on large jars from time to time but I would advise just buying a 100g jar to see if you like it first.

2 cups in the morning? OMG I do not drink anything else but coffee unless it is a very hot summer's day and I have the odd diet Coke.

Me changing to decaf is non negotiable.

I used to find Gold Blend the best decaf (or unleaded as it was known in our house). I'm afraid I'm back to caffeine these days, just two cups in the morning. Do they do Azera in a decaf?
