No Brussels - and now it seems my favourite Xmas treat - i.e. Brazil nuts in shells - are in very short supply. Can't find any anywhere...

No wonder you're cross Chris wink

Jalima Mon 12-Dec-16 20:08:36

They seem to have been in short supply for two or three years now.

Perhaps it's all those confectionery firms buying them up and covering them with chocolate.

I'll just have to make do with the chocolate covered ones hmm

You can buy them ready shelled. Holland and Barrett are good value.

Luckily (smug emoji) I stockpiled them last year, just tried them today and the shells slightly easier to crack, and the nuts inside sweet and yummy.Love Brazil nuts, and they are good for you too (selenium?) The choccy ones are welcome too.

Now you know why ChrisCross, rosesarered has a warehouse full of stockpiled brazil nuts.
We just need to find out where
wink

I'll just buy the chocolate coated ones then.

Jalima Mon 12-Dec-16 23:16:58

which reminds me of the joke about the young vicar visiting the old lady who offered him peanuts .....

And, Jalima? Not heard that one.

I'll go for the chocolate covered ones too!

rosesarered Tue 13-Dec-16 08:50:04

Tee-hee jalima am never revealing the secret location....they are mine, all mine I tell you! Mwhahahahahh.

rosesarered Tue 13-Dec-16 08:50:53

Yes, what's the punchline to this joke about peanuts?

Teetime Tue 13-Dec-16 10:20:01

I saw a food programme recently here they showed how brazil nuts grow (several clustered centrally in a pod) and that the trees cannot and are not farmed and only grow naturally and are harvested by hand so the shortage is understandable. Sainsbury had them last week in their shells.

Here is the joke, only in the British version, it's the young curate who visits the old lady grin

Sorry I asked now.grin

rosesarered Tue 13-Dec-16 16:24:13

I may never look at a big bowl of peanuts in the same way.tchshock

Jalima Tue 13-Dec-16 16:24:55

Sorry, it was one of DH's jokes ...

ChrisCross Tue 13-Dec-16 18:26:45

I found some in Sainsburys really early in the autumn - bought one pack - wish I had bought more but didn't realise then that they would be in such short supply. Never mind - I'm sure we can make do with the shelled or chocolate covered ones! Just be grateful we have food on our table this winter - having just watched yet another horror news item on Aleppo - lack of Brazil nuts seems very insignificant...

Jalima Tue 13-Dec-16 18:29:27

ChrisCross so true.

SingingSilver Tue 13-Dec-16 23:46:37

I bought some from Sainsbury's last month, but I can't get into them, the shells are rock hard! I'm going to try soaking them...
