Sorry but it sounds awful greenfinch. My family are all veggie so I do understand but veggie bacon is horrible in my humble opinion.

You can get some very nice vegetarian sausages but mumofmadboys is right about the bacon.

If you are vegetarian why do you want to create a vegetarian version of what is a very basic 100% meat dish?

As a omnivore I would never consider trying to create a 100% meat version of a nut roast.

Only my DD and SiL are vegetarian. The rest of us are not and will be enjoying our regular pigs in blankets. It is my wish to give them something comparable.

Vega bacon doesn't work in pigs in blankets. Quorn cocktail sausages (Cauldron make them) are tasty and could be served well with the nut roast. Just skip the bacon bit. The sausages coated in vegetarian stuffing are nice too, just press the stuffing mix around them and bake in oven for about 25 minutes. I make the stuffing with added cranberry sauce, gives it a nice tang!

Thanks for the advice Granmary18.I think I will just serve the quorn cocktail sausages on their own for them.

They do say that it is the smell of bacon frying that is most likely to turn a vegetarian into an omnivore. I can understand why!
