Meat cutter upper

Rather than buy a gadget why not slow-cook meat, either on the hob, or oven, for many hours on low-heat so shouldn't use too much fuel.

I do a shoulder of lamb in a slow-cooker but it can easily be done in an oven covered with foil - add some liquid and veg. You could do pork, lamb, beef etc.

Plenty of recipes online for pulled pork, slow-cooked Moroccan lamb, etc. You can then batch freeze the extra portions with the juices.

Sorry about the mouth ulcer - I had one once and it was no fun.

Mouth full of ulcers ! Can only eat chicken and cooking for one , can't eat onions so making soups are a no no

Slow cooked meat will be as soft as chicken - as I said you can freeze into portions to have later. Do you never batch cook?

I make carrot and coriander soup without onions for SiL who can't eat them. 600g carrots, a small potato, a good teaspoon of ground coriander and two or three teaspons of Marigold boouillon powder or a veggie cube plus water to cover the veg by an inch or so.

Lentil soup with carrots and whatever other veg are sulking lurking in the fridge doesn't need onion either if you taste it and up the seasoning if it seems to need it (but SiL can't eat lentils either)

Mince and mash?

Never batch cook Riverwalk, I hate fish sorry, wish I didn't , would solve problem.

Mince and mash ? Could try that but will need to buy a thingy to mince meat, my own fault for saying for years - don't need gadgets l now I do

Raw meat, I mean, and then cook it?

PS - I could post you a hoarded hand mincer that clamps onto the table and uses no electricity - just hand power. Build up muscle as a side effect, no need to go to the gym!

Isn't it just easier to buy from the supermarket ready-minced beef, lamb & pork? Then you could make lasagne, meatballs, bolognese, etc. Maybe I'm missing something here

You could mince your meat either cooked or uncooked (uncooked is messier).

If you made your own lasagne it would be bland, though without any tomatoes in the meat sauce it might not be exactly authentic Italian lasagne. The pasta is bland, so is the white sauce layer, and the seasoning is exactly as you choose. Chicken lasagne is nice, and I have made veggie lasagne too.

DD uses a bit of ginger or mustard powder in things where the flavouring wouldn't be suitable for SiL.

I wonder what you would call a shepherds pie made with chicken?

I used to nake one with macaroni cheese on top of the mince/gravy layer for a change, and tell the children it was an Italian shepherds pie. I've since discovered that there is an Italian dish called pasticchio which is almost exctly what I made when reinventing the wheel.
