Egg mayonnaise, with a dash of mustard . Must be on wholemeal or granary to be 100% perfect.

We don't often have sandwiches - I find it a chore. But when we do it's either egg mayonnaise, cheese and Branston pickle, or tomato and Marmite.
If it's for a day out I sometimes just pack the bread ready sliced, with the salads etc ready to put on top.
I'm fond of sautéed mushrooms at the moment - they might be good in a sandwich.

We have: tuna with a little mayo, and sliced tomatoes,
Grated cheese with any pickle,
Grated Wensleydale with coleslaw,
Corned beef and any lettuce and mayo
Thinly sliced ham and thinly sliced cheese
Hot grilled sausages with brown sauce (baguette)
Hot grilled bacon (baguette)
Boiled eggs chopped up with butter and a little salt.
Hungry now!

Since having lived in Edinburgh for a year or two D raves about square sausage. Not something you see in Kent. Though it's probably there if you look.

Smoked mackerel whizzed into a pate with Mascarpone cheese, on crusty bread. Mary Berry adds lime zest but I prefer it without.

Just had gf fish fingers in a gf roll. Plenty of butter and a smear of brown sauce.

I also like a roll with a slice of ham, a slice of emmental and red onion marmalade.

Marmite and cottage cheese
Cream cheese with anything (herbs, a tart jam, honey, Marmite, fresh tomatoes)

My basic rule: Bread cut thin, buttered thickly. Three ingredients inside - including one fresh salad ingredient (cucumber slices, tomato slices, lettuce leaf, grated carrot - at a pinch a pickled gherkin), one main ingredient and mayo, pickle, ketchup or the like.

The grated carrot is very refreshing and great (excuse pun!) with grated cheese.

Salmon/tuna or chicken with salad are always popular here.
Another favourite is Brie with Cranberry sauce, nice in a crusty roll or baguette.

I am boring, either egg with watercress or a sandwich made with vinegar flavoured crisps.

Blue Stilton with mayo and walnuts.
Cold sausages with barbeque sauce.
Prawns with mayo mixed with tomato paste.

Cheese and onion is also DH's favourite filling! I quite like it myself, but prefer peanut butter and banana. Or we both like tinned red salmon and cucumber.

ninathenana Fri 21-Apr-17 12:49:09

I'm just about to make H and I, tuna mayo and cucumber.
One of H's favourites is cheese and onion . I think it was on HUTH that a guy who owns a sandwich makers/distributors said cheese and onion was their best seller.

DH loves sandwiches and I make some every day, usually with fillings he likes. The other day he announced that he's getting fed up with the same fillings!

So, before I tell him 'to make his own darn sandwiches', I'm looking to enlist the help of GN for suggestions for great fillings so that he can only look on with envy at my super-delicious creation - for me grin.

Any ideas?
