Left this too late, just realised the date shock
DSis has become a vegetarian.
I have a recollection that a lovely GNer mentioned that there was such a beast.

McSweens do one. Certainly available in Waitrose and Sainsbury.

Yes I had it from sainsburys the other year when they had sold out of the non veggie ones. It wasn't bad either!

When I gave up eating meat over thirty years ago I realised in the January that I just didn't want to eat it anymore but we were booked to go to a Burns Night.

I knew what was in haggis but I'd always liked it and decided to eat it. It was the last time I ate meat.

The next year I made vegetarian haggis to my own rdcipe. It was based on bulgar wheat which gave the right texture and included onion, mushroom, spices, soya sauce, oats and vegetable stock.

Now it is easy to buy vegetarian haggis but it is good to make a rich onion gravy tonaccojpahy it.

I have two in freezer. They are very nice.
Simon Howie or McSweens both have vege versions.

Well, how strange! DGS is visiting tomorrow and he's vegetarian. We are having a vegetarian haggis probably with neeps and tatties for our tea. DH is bringing one from Wait rose in the morning.

Tesco have them too, in our area anyway.

tonaccojpahy, is the cousin to cacophony, vegetarian of course smile

Jalima1108 Thu 25-Jan-18 11:53:13

there could be a bit of cacophony at the Burns Supper we're going to (ceilidh as well) although I do hope it's more melodic!

Cherrytree59 Thu 25-Jan-18 14:07:05

Varian I would also be grateful if you would share your recipe pleasesmile

mumofmadboys Thu 25-Jan-18 14:23:30

Jalima1108 Thu 25-Jan-18 14:30:46

Happy Birthday Rabbie Burns.

My haggis is all ready to cook when grandson arrives. I'm doing the traditional neeps and tatties with it. Now I need to find a good recipe for vegetarian gravy. So I'm off googling.??

Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,
Great chieftain o' the puddin-race!
Aboon them a' ye tak your place,
Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye wordy of a grace
As lang's my arm.

Thanks Hildajsmile
You just need a wee dram poured over the Haggis, no need for gravygrin

varian Thu 25-Jan-18 16:59:29

I like a rich onion gravy, but you could pep it up with whisky.
