I was really disappointed when Force wheatflakes was discontinued and there’s nothing new that’s comparable.

Rice Cremola. Used to have it as a child. Bright yellow. Also, I dont like curry, but I liked the Vesta packet curry that used to be in the shops.

Aztec bars. Anyone else remember those?

grannybuy Tue 27-Feb-18 23:14:25

Inishowen I well remember those Crawfords plain chocolate digestives. Our corner shop sometimes sold small bagfuls of broken ones cheaply. They were so much better than McVities!

grannybuy Tue 27-Feb-18 23:08:30

No one I know remembers the chocolate bar
Coffee Crisp - it had coffee aero and wafer. I loved them. I really liked Heinz vegetable salad as well. There was a spell as a child when it might possibly have been the only vegetables I ate!

Bathsheba Tue 27-Feb-18 22:56:49

Pollyperkins I remember Ice Magic - my DC loved it! But good news! I recently came across a product in Tesco called 'Crackin', made by Askeys. It's exactly the same, and I think it comes in two flavours - chocolate or caramel.

CariGN I too used to love Oat Krunchies, but haven't they just been renamed? It's called Oat Crisp nowadays. I buy it sometimes - I think it's slightly different, smaller size pieces maybe, but essentially the same thing.

Granash - acid drop Spangles! My favourite!
Also ginger flavoured biscuits, two sandwiched together with a sweet white filling. The biscuits were quite soft, not like ginger nuts. Wish I could remember the name.

I miss shredded coconut - not the desiccated stuff, or the coconut flakes - you used to be able to buy packets of shredded coconut which was perfect for the top of iced London Cheesecakes. Desiccated just isn't the same.
Surprise Peas. Remember them? Little bright green packs of fast freeze dried peas. They were surprisingly (!) tasty and very handy to keep in as a standby.
Foster Clarks soups. They were little solid cubes of powdered soup that you crumbled and dissolved in boiling water - very useful for thickening a stew. They only came in oxtail, tomato and something else - chicken was it?
Oh and I really miss Cadbury's Dream bars - meltingly delicious white chocolate bars. Especially the Cadbury's Dream Eggs at Easter. OMG they were a little piece of heaven wrapped up in foil - a white chocolate outer, with a soft, creamy white chocolate centre.

Just want to say a big thank-you to all the lovely ladies who have bought such wonderful memories of magical foods from the past?
May I recommend a visit to a museum called “Bygones”
in Marychurch, South Devon.
They have a collection of old-fashioned shops including a
sweet shop (if I remember correctly.) there.

We still have Grape nuts for breakfast. Sainsbury’s and Waitrose both sell them

Magicmaggie Tue 27-Feb-18 22:01:59

Gabriella
Thanks for letting me know about the cafe iced biscuits.
I’ll pop into M&S tomorrow and get a pack.

Sheilasue Tue 27-Feb-18 21:54:28

Breakfast cereal called grape nuts. Loved it with hot milk.

charjoy Tue 27-Feb-18 21:25:41

My Mum's home made faggots - the best!

Maggieanne Tue 27-Feb-18 21:11:02

Ooh, Griselda, just yesterday I was trying to remember the name of the tomato sauce my mum used to buy years ago and today...there it was. We always had Haza sauce, loved it, what a coincidence! What a shame all of these small, I'm guessing that's what they were, companies have gone. Now it seems big conglomerates own nearly all the small companies and any products they used to make have been "improved" out of all recognition. Duncans Coffee Walnut Whips, anybody!

You can get caramac chocolate in the poundshop. I used to love it when I was a child but find it really sickly now! But I liked the biscuits!

Granash Tue 27-Feb-18 20:17:02

PanYan pickle and acid drop Spangles please!

GabriellaG Tue 27-Feb-18 20:07:19

blancmange blush

GabriellaG Tue 27-Feb-18 20:06:14

Abernethy/Abernathy biscuits, crisp and crumbly. I too, like another poster, remember the very thick tea biscuits and why has bkancmange gone out of favour?
It used to be a staple of Sunday teatime with jelly and evaporated milk. My favourite was raspberry blancmange with blackberry jelly and evap and thinly sliced white bread n butter. Mmm.

GabriellaG Tue 27-Feb-18 19:58:40

Choc not chic. blush

GabriellaG Tue 27-Feb-18 19:58:06

gran5up
That's it, Neapolitan. I had no idea the chic one was called Chocopolitan. You learn something every day.
I e-mailed Walls to ask if they were bringing them back instead of only having 'soft' ice-cream in tubs. Months later...still waiting for a reply. sad

clareken Tue 27-Feb-18 19:51:35

Hammonds tomato sauce. Found a bottle a few years ago and it was so sweet.

oldgaijin Tue 27-Feb-18 19:45:43

...and who re members honeycomb mould?

Lilyflower Tue 27-Feb-18 19:28:26

There used to be a brand of meusli called 'Country Store' full of nuts, fruit and, probably, sweetener or sugar. It was lovely.

Menopaws Tue 27-Feb-18 19:27:39

Chocolate lovelys, do they still exist? Had a little cream swirl on top.

TwiceAsNice Tue 27-Feb-18 19:25:13

I loved Royal Scot biscuits too I had forgotten all about them. Caramac bars - like butterscotch flavoured chocolate and I liked Frys cream bars with different flavours for each piece. And old oak ham in a tin with jelly -yum!

elleks Tue 27-Feb-18 19:11:31

Vesta meals-all you can get now is Paella, Chow Mein and beef Curry. They used to do Chicken Supreme, and a lovely beef Italiano.
Chocolate Garibaldi biscuits.
