I will defer to you, Izabella, since I have never been to America. My only knowledge comes from being served some dreadful beers at barbecues by American friends at NATO bases we served on. Guinness is my favourite tipple by a country mile.

My ex-husband used to do home brewing (very 70s-80s) and when I was diagnosed with anaemia while pregnant with my first child he made me stout (which is rich in iron.) I used to have a half-pint at lunchtime and another in the evening. It was a much pleasanter way to alleviate anaemia than ion tablets! That did mean, however, that I was drinking alchohol every day throughout my 4 pregnancies. The children are all fine, however.
Root beer is a soft drink.

Anyone ever had root beer ? Oh yuk---it's an acquired taste.

Stout is supposed to be an iron supplement - well Guinness .
In the ?60s my Mum had been run down with all sorts of infections, and the doctor gave her a prescription for Guinness, to build her up.

Sorry to disagree Grey blush but there are now some amazing micro breweries springing up in the States and I have partaken of many a fine brew. My most recent foray over there was in California, but even the Texan rellies are telling me there are now some good breweries in and around Houston.

The only use for stout is for adding to Christmas puddings imho.

They are American. The Americans can make neither decent beer nor decent chocolate. Fear not!

I was amazed when I read this.
No wonder there's a surge in obesity!
It was included in a bread recipe. Instead of water .
Would you try it ?
