I want to make some flapjacks with smarties pressed into the top for a school cake sale. Does anybody know if they will freeze OK so I can get ahead? I’m sorry I ask more questions than I give answers but, 4 years later, I still feel very uneducated as a Gran.

I should imagine the Smarties would lose their colour but I don't know. Flapjack will keep for quite a while without freezing anyway.

Will it get the chance ?grin

I think the smarties might soften when defrosted. Flapjacks will keep well for at least a week in an airtight container lined with baking parchment.

I agree I think Smarties will lose their colour and sheen.

Why not freeze the Flapjacks then when you de-frost them put a thin layer of warm golden syrup or melted chocolate on top them press the Smarties into that.

Thank you all. I hadn’t realised that flapjack would keep so well as it normally never gets a chance here. Another problem solved.

I am off to make flapjacks - just that?

Yes but the Smarties will get a whitish 'bloom' on them

You could try freezing a smartie then seeing what it looks like when you de-freeze it.
