Has anyone successfully frozen houmous? There seems to be conflicting info when I google. Two of the pots that I have bought contain 'extras' - one has red peppers and the other has caramelised onion.

Thanks in advance! tchsmile

Sorry, not a clue but I would err on the side of caution and not do it.

I would freeze it and see what it is like. I imagine the texture may change a little but I don't think it will do you any harm.

I'd eat it, just to save messing around. smile

Easiest way to find out is to freeze it and then defrost, say a week later. If it is fine you now know you can freeze it. If it separates or curdles, you will not freeze it again.

I would imagine that it might go into a sticky emulsion that ends up being horrible.
You dont need much to try and see what happens.

Whats happened to your spirit of adventure. wink

Just try it. It may work.

MissA That was Plan B, but there's rather a lot of it!

My thinking was that it might separate, which wouldn't bother me, but I was hoping to offer it to guests!

I'll freeze some and see what happens! If I don't post for a while you'll know what effect it had! ??

Thanks all of you!

Yes I've frozen houmous and it was fine - if low-fat it might turn out a little gritty but won't do any harm!

Thanks River!

It always surprises me how short the shelf-life on houmus is. You wouldn't think there was much to go off but it only ever seems to have a few days from purchase. I have never frozen it but am interested to hear what happens when you do.
