Has anyone tried the Greggs vegan sausage roll?

I suppose vegans want to eat fatty pastry products in the street on cold days.....like non vegas?

NanaandGrampy, I have been vegetarian since a teenager, so a very long time. I don't eat meat not because I don't like the shape of it or because of what its called, but because of what it is. I don't care if my vegetarian bacon is a similar shape to a piece of bacon or if my burgers are burger shaped, just as long as they don't have a poor animal in the ingredients.
As MOnica says a sausage doesn't have to be meat. Its a shape.

Oop! What part of an animal does a Sausage come from? Surely it refers to the shape. I wouldn’t want to eat a Greggs product but Linda McCartney sausages are good for a quick meal and not as fatty as the meat varieties.

I have not tried them but know people who say they are good and apparently some buns are too. Now there's a healthy diet!

Am now tempted to don my mink and venture into Greggs for a pack of hot greasy real sausage rolls.?

Each to their own, we have Greggs and an independent bakers in our small High Road, I use the independent one never been into a Greggs.

Linda McCartney vegan sausage rolls are lovely, bake at home and not at all greasy.

Some vegans prefer not to eat things which look like meat.
Some vegans dislike the idea of people wearing coats that mimic real fur.
Its just people, and their ways.

In any case, why would a vegan want to eat something that looks like a sausage roll?

I'd like to say I've never been in Greggs either but they moved into our town,undercut the bakers that were here and forced them out of business ,now theres only Greggs .

After all it has no sausage in it , and wouldn’t vegans be put off eating something named after animal products ?

I’ve never really understood why vegetarians products are made to look , smell and taste like their meat counterparts . Any veggies out there that can shed any light on that?

I'm going to try one just out of curiosity. Someone was sampling it on TV and said it was lovely.

With luck, if it's a success, they will do a gluten free one!

I didn't have one very often but a Greggs sausage role really hits the spot!

I watched how to lose weight well last night on channel 4. One of the diets tested was the Greggs diet. Oh how i laughed as this consisted of sausage rolls and so on. However it worked and the volunteer lost about 2 stones and was able to get into his kilt for a wedding....i was left open mouthed. Next i checked out my nearest greggs branch....

Plenty of health benefits for pigs though.
I might nip into Greggs and have a look if I go out today.

I would do but....the fat content is only a couple of grams less than a pork sausage roll, so not much of a 'health' benefit.

A sausage doesn't have to include meat.The term is a description of an item - like a cake that comes sweet and savoury (fishcakes) and can also be made from vegetables or a patty, pate, rissole, stew, not to mention veggieburgers.

Ah but it’s not a sausage roll. Might as well call a cake an apple.

My vegetarian son in law has tried it and liked it.

I have no desire to try one but I read in the news yesterday that vegans are now urging people to put their dogs on a vegan diet.

Does this mean that the dachshund will be replaced by a vegan sausage dog?
