Have always cooked Gammon in coke (Pepsi Gsons request) in slow cook.........mmmmmm.....delicious.

I did it once - in a slow cooker. It was beautifully tender but tasteless. I went back to bringing it to a boil and scumming it a couple of times. Then putting it into the oven with a little water and loosely covering with foil. When baked the rind is removed and mustard and brown sugar is rubbed over. Then returned to the oven fora short time to give a nice crisp covering. It looks good as well.

Ginger beer sounds brilliant, will definitely give that a go. Thanks for the tip smile

I like to use ginger beer too. Whichever you choose make sure it's the full sugar version. Diet stuff is no use.

Like GrannyGravy13 I use apple juice. I don't like cola.

I've done it with ginger beer in the slow cooker. It is a staple slimming world recipe with diet cola.

Not sure I've had this but I'm not surprised it works. We have potlucks with our students in some courses. A former student made pulled pork by marinating it in root beer.

Ginger beer is nice too.

In cider too.

Brunette10, Mary Berry had been doing it for ages as I saw once in one of her old cookery programmes.

I made that 2 Christmases ago. It was very good. Lots of complements

Gammon in cider is a favourite in our house, makes really lovely gravy too.

EllanVannin - it may not be new but I'm always at the coo's tail wink. I have found the recipe, so thanks to all. Kitty hope the cherry is as good. I have tried Nigella's Lemon Chicken recipe and I think it's so tasty and easy to make so hopefully I shall like her Gammon in Coke.

It was me on the good morning thread!! Dh bought cherry cola. I'll let you know.

It doesnt taste of coke but you do need to use full sugar coke.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 01-Sept-19 10:47:22

I substitute the coke for cider (apple juice can be used), as a family we do not like coke/Pepsi. Add a few bay leaves and whole cloves, cover and shove in the oven approximately 20mins per pound plus 10 minutes then leave to rest in juices till you carve.

It is so easy to do and results in a very moist and tasty joint.

EllanVannin Sun 01-Sept-19 09:58:50

Gammon in Coke is nothing new.

I don’t eat meat myself but have been making this for years following Nigella’s TV program and the resulting book. My son and husband love it .

Pantglas1 Sun 01-Sept-19 09:55:37

I agree, the recipe is brilliant with the meat so moist and faintly sweet. I did make the soup with the liquid but found it too sweet and next time only used half and adding chicken stock so that it was properly savoury.

Brunette10 Sun 01-Sept-19 09:42:08

Thanks MawB - I shall certainly look at Nigellas recipe. Something different for a change - getting fed up really of eating - causes so much thinking!

GagaJo Sun 01-Sept-19 09:41:54

Yes, the Nigella recipe. It's VERY good. And you can make soup with the left over cooking liquid too, just need some black beans.

MawB Sun 01-Sept-19 09:39:46

Nigella - I think in “How to eat” but you could Google to check.
It is very good!

Just saw this mentioned on the Good Morning thread. It sounds interesting if anyone would like to share their recipe. thanks
