Thanks for your ideas and suggestions! I'll let you know how it goes! Won't be until next week however. I have a little of the original left still! Oh and for those of you making one, I found it needed 10 mins longer than the specified time.

With all the dried fruit in it, I’d probably find it sweet enough without the sugar anyway and just dollop a couple of tablespoons of honey in at the end. Worth a try and even if it’s not GBBO standard, it’ll still be delish sliced and buttered straight from oven!

These fruit loaves with steeped tea are really tasty.

I make a similar recipe but using Earl Grey tea, and spelt flour. It's really yummy. It does have fat though, but only 70 grams in the entire cake.

I too am very tempted by this recipe. And what a good way to use 3 or 4 used teabags - no need to use a fresh one!

Seems the rule of thumb is to use 1/2-2/3 by volume of honey to sugar. So for every cup of sugar, use 1/2-2/3 cup of honey (because it's sweeter than sugar). Then reduce the other liquids a little to compensate. As the only liquid in this recipe is egg, I imagine using 1 1/2 eggs instead of 2 would probably do it.

It looks yummy and I too think I'll make it.

I'll use half Xylitol and half honey, adding them to the steeping water.

I’ve just looked at the recipe. I’m going to try it, but with sugar. I’m glad you say you enjoyed it and hope you find a way of substituting the sugar with honey.

Try adding a tablespoon of honey to the marinade.
Compensate with 20% extra dried fruit.

I'd just put a dollop of honey in and a handful more dried fruit.
Tea loaves, like banana breads are very forgiving!
I'm sure it will be delicious!

I tried this recipe last week and its really lovely! No fat and made with wholemeal flour. I would really like to omit the sugar and substitute with honey. I've had a bit of a google but can't find a definitive answer. Also if I can how much honey would I use? I suppose I could experiment but I hate to waste food if its a disaster! Thanks for any advice!
