You beat me to it Tuppence, we used to have cheese and raspberry jam sandwiches when I lived in the nurses home. Afternoon teatime saw the tables set with little dishes of jam and sliced Cheddar cheese. The cheese sandwiches were very dry so we started adding the jam to add a little moisture.

As youngsters my cousin and I used to enjoy cheese and raspberry jam sandwiches. Don't know how it came about.

Philly on toast with fresh blueberries and mint, or strawberries and mint.

I struggled with a friends concoction (trust me, she said) of mango and mackerel salad with red onion - but to my astonishment that truly works too!

A few years ago now. I was on holiday and in the local bakery getting a sandwich made to take on a days hiking. I fancied Tuna but it was already mixed with cucumber and at the time cucumber was giving me dreadful heartburn. The assistant said they also had a tuna cheese and onion mix. It sounded a bit strange but I tried it and its lovely!!

Also the classic blue cheese and pear with a few walnuts distributed throughout.

Damn. Made myself hungry and I've got a temporary dressing on a molar so am having to eat very soft things slowly and carefully. Och.

Peanut butter and tomato sandwiches, grated apple and carrot salad with spring onions garlic salt and lemon juice. Toasted cheese with tomato and Worcester sauce.

My ex husband used to take a packed lunch to work - I either had to make cheese or vegemite sandwiches under his request. I got so fed up of doing the same ones, (and we'd had an argument the day before after he'd moaned about the type of bread I had used) so I thought "right, I'll shut you up!" , so I made him vegemite and cheese and for good measure, spread some apricot jam on the other side of the cheese.
It backfired! He loved it !!! But now he's all into smashed advocado and banana apparently !

rosecarmel avocado and banana I know but not with chocolate - maybe look into that for Christmas - using sugar-free chocolate.

Avocado and chocolate- Recipes for mousse and pudding using these can be found online, I've yet to come across any in books yet-

Oven heated brie, sauteed onion and whole berry cranberry sauce on crusty toast-

A few years ago I discovered (and thought I had invented) Coconut Cocoa.
That's the old bedtime favourite but with coconut milk or cream powder mixed in, rather than cow's milk.

For those in UK, Tesco sell sachets of cc powder and Maggi do it too, in case you feel like trying it. It's a lovely winter drink, especially with a splash of booze.

But this week I discovered another unusual combination.

At first I thought, 'Oh, no, yuk.' But I was at a friend's house and didn't want to appear rude so tried it - and it was delicious.
Not something I would ever have thought of doing for myself. But now I shall.

It was a bowl of winter salad (raw cabbage, red and white, grated carrot, beetroot, slivered Lebanese cucumber, finely chopped Spring onions) with a little dressing - and potato crisps crumbled on top!

Maybe it's a staple everywhere and I've been living in the dark but I've never come across it before. It really was delicious.

I sometimes make a grated carrot and beetroot mix, add a little oil and crushed garlic (it's best left in the fridge for a day to 'settle') and have that with cottage or other cheese - now I'm going to see if a bit of crumbled crisps goes with that too. I may try Green Onion flavour smile
