Dear lovely Ladies.
I am a Polish lady, but have resided in Scotland for 25 years.
However......I am ashamed to say that I have never attempted to cook 'Stovies', and my family are now insisting that I need to find out how to cook this speciality. They wish to have them for supper,on Wednesday!!!!!
I was wondering if anyone can give me an easy to understand recipe, that I could experiment with.
What type of potatoes are best etc.
I would be delighted if I could please my young men......and I will be so appreciative if you can help.
Thank you.
Kind regards

Agnieszka, I think you may have opened a can of worms here, there are so many variations.
Some are made with corned beef, some with sausages and some with minced beef!
I make a simple version with minced beef, I don't eat them , but my husband loves stovies.
I'm sure the Edinburgh grans will have a different recipe.

Try this recipe, using minced beef.

Everyone has their own version so there really isn't a standard recipe. Just google it, choose the one which sounds most attractive to you and adapt it to your taste. (I use garlic - my mother would turn in her grave at that?)

Marydoll has hit the nail on the head here - I always say you could ask 100 Scottish people how to mak stovies and get 100 different versions. I would never use mince to make my stovies - I would preferably use the leftovers from a joint of silverside or brisket, but failing that, I would use sausages. I have had them with corned beef too - but I think that's more of a corned beef hash than stovies. Funnily enough, although I love cooking and cook 99% of the meals in our house, my husband is the stovie king - and makes very good stovies too!
