Do you have a favourite cocktail?

I'm a late starter; I was teetotal until I was in my mid forties and then began to have an occasional glass of white wine. Over the last twenty years I have progressed slowly to partake in the odd glass of Christmas cheer (gluhwein) and applecorn schnapps (courtesy of the Lidl) at the appropriate season. But now I fear I am a fallen woman - I have moved on to become a cocktail diva!! shock

It was my sons' fault when they went on holiday with their dad to a place where there is a fabulous cocktail bar. They were horrified to discover that although my husband and I have holidayed there together many times, he has never bought me a cocktail.

Last year my eldest son gave money to his dad with the instruction it was to be used to buy me cocktails when we were on holiday. The photo (above) was proof for our son that he had complied. Oh my! Who knew that cocktails were so wonderful? They're simply delicious, if somewhat alcoholic, fruit drinks.

I have been seduced. My son has now bought me several bottles of liquor, cocktail glasses, a muddler and a shot measure; my brother in law has bought me a book of cocktails - and I'm ready to go. I have now tried several, but my favourite so far is a watermelon one.

I can always manage a Dry Martini or two but my favourite is a White Lady. Sometimes, but not often, nothing is better than a Harvey Wallbanger.

It depends on the occasion. I like a Negroni before a nice dinner but for a 'girly' night out Cosmopolitans are fun. I also second a White Lady (made so the inside of your mouth crinkles on first sip).

I like a Mojito, not so sweet as a lot of cocktails. My nephew supplied them as one of the free drinks at his wedding reception in the summer and they went down very well.

A strawberry Bellini. Years a go in Rome , (In an Irish Bar, of all places, the men were having Guiness!! ) my friend and I had a strawberry Bellini, served in a tall glass with a straw......dire consequences, when we foolishly drank it like a soft drink

In no particular order, aWhiteLady, Whiskey Sour, Pornstar Martini, Long Island Iced Tea (very strong) Espresso Martini.
I love a cocktail.
Oh simple G&T of course, I always forget it is a cocktail.

We had a lovely holiday touring the Veneto a few years back. We were up in the Dolomites and stopped at a lovely hotel for a drink.
They had the most utterly beautiful terraced gardens and we sat outside in the early autumn sunshine and drank peach Bellinis.

We are not really cocktail drinkers but that was one of those occasions - right place, right time ... perfect drink.

The first cocktail I had was a Tequila Caipirinha made with ripe peach. It was worryingly delicious on account of the fact that (apart from it being prohibitively expensive) it really tasted so like an exotic fruit drink that I could have drunk a jug full. blush

One of the nice things about this is that at my age there isn’t much in life that I haven’t already experienced, so it’s good to be trying something new.
