Thanks for the replies. Somehow I cannot see adding dill and coriander to a sweet recipe...maybe it's just that small amount and the others would be more dominant flavours.

When i look up the ingredients in 'pumpkin pie spice' it includes cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger and allspice. That sounds like a reasonable mix for fig rolls. Will give it a try next time I make the recipe.

Hi there, the flavours you need are cinnamon,star anise and a little nutmeg.
The Chinese 5 spice would be too dominant in a sweet recipe.

I think mixed spice is what is needed a mixture of cinnamon, cloves nutmeg ginger dill and coriander.

We use it for cake making etc. So suitable for sweet dishes.

I was looking up a recipe for Fig Newtons, and saw one that asked for five spice. I have Chinese 5 Spice , but am sure it would not work in a sweet recipe. I asked my friend and she said their is an English/British version of 5 spice which would include cinnamon, cloves, etc.

In Canada you can get Pumpkin Pie spice, which is a mixture a bit heavier on cloves and nutmeg. I can't seem to find what the UK version includes. Any ideas? I could make it myself if I knew the ingredients.

By the way I made the fig newtons and they were delicious. Just added cinnamon.
