Our Sunday morning treat is to have croissants for breakfast and pretend we are back on holiday on Isle de Re. But I often wonder if we eat them the correct way. I know some of you live in France so can you enlighten me and tell me how you eat your croissants.

Split lengthwise then Crosta & Mollica Italian Peach Conserve spread onto bottom half, close and eat. Total bliss! Good cup of milky coffee to go with it.
Both these just a weekly treat as rather calorific!smile

I warm my croissant and then tear them, each piece being jammed as I go. I don’t bother with butter as they are full of butter anyway. Always eaten with Taylor’s Lazy Sunday coffee.

As others have said, they are perfect with apricot jam but I make jam and buy the nice stuff too so I can attest that they are good with many different flavours.

Torn into chunks and Smothered in apricot jam. Rarely eat them as they are not good for my cholesterol.

The 'correct' way if we are assuming the correct way is the place of origin, and assuming they are plain croissants, is dipped in a BOWL of milky coffee or hot chocolate. My way, even when I lived in Paris was with salty butter and jam, but just a mouthful at a time.

Actually I wish I hadn't seen this thread, all I can think of now is croissants but can't get any. Grrrrr!

Slice then butter and marmalade,so delicious !

Why would anyone eat croissants for breakfast - much prefer the Italian way - fruit, cereals, ham, cheese, jam, toast and rolls, finished off with a slice of cake.

You can have can have bacon, or an omelet if you prefer a hot breakfast.

That's not to like.

Sorry about typos, am sitting out in the sun and can't see the screen ?

It always annoys me a little when posters criticise the topic. notright this is. A lighthearted thread. We all know that when in your own home you can do as you please but it is sometimes good to k ow the correct way so as not to look a bit daft in company.

Having to depend on food deliveries I haven’t had a decent croissant for a long time. Years ago I used to make my own (and Danish pastries). Just eat with jam. They have enough butter in them already.

Sounds good.?

My son shares a house with a French student at Uni. She says you simply eat it...no butter, jam or anything. Just the plain item...but I'll stick with butter and apricot

My husband heats his in the air fryer then just eats them naked……..the croissant not the husband

Pick it up in your fingers, take it to your mouth, bite, chew, enjoy.

Lizzie44 Mon 14-Jun-21 12:51:59

Fresh from the local baker, eaten out on the balcony, accompanied by coffee and a view of the Med. Oh how I miss holidays...

Theoddbird Mon 14-Jun-21 12:37:54

I put in mouth and chew....

TrendyNannie6 Mon 14-Jun-21 12:30:11

Open your mouth and in they go and chew ?

SiobhanSharpe Mon 14-Jun-21 12:28:38

Plain. With coffee.
I know the French dunk theirs into bowls of hot chocolate or milky coffee and think the English are barbarous to have them with butter and jam.
But they think we're barbarous anyway in matters of food. (Apart from food they quite admire le style Anglais.)

Alioop Mon 14-Jun-21 12:23:36

My Sunday morning treat too. I warm them in the oven, rip them up and have a huge dollop of strawberry jam on the plate that I heap on the peices. No wonder it's just on a Sunday blush

Notright Mon 14-Jun-21 12:22:40

Have you nothing else to worry about but the correct way. There is no correct way to eat anything especially if you are in your own home. I personally slather butter all over it, add a bit of jam or something, and proceed to make a complete mess. But I love it that way. There's more things to worry about in this world than about how to eat a croissant for goodness sake.

Ellianne Mon 14-Jun-21 12:16:48

I'm getting obsessed now. I just checked my Paul Hollywood book and found them. They sound a bit complicated.

Nannashirlz Mon 14-Jun-21 12:14:15

When we lived in Germany we used to eat the same way as a hot cross bun. By split in half and put on your toppings. Over there you get a chocolate stick put through the middle. But why worry what ppl think. Just eat and enjoy

MollyG Mon 14-Jun-21 12:09:28

I live in France, I think the French have them dipped in hot chocolate, I like butter and jam on mine but not sure there’s a right or wrong way, just get them eaten, yum ?

moggie57 Mon 14-Jun-21 12:08:44

Usually open my mouth put in mouth chew and swallow
