According to the Great British Vineyards Guide, there are over 700 vineyards in the UK (who would have thought!!). If this is the case, why is it so difficult to get hold of in our supermarkets? Tesco and Sainsburys and Asda stock 3 varieties, but each stock around 600 varieties of wine. Aldi and Lidl stock no British wines, and Waitrose comes out best at 19 varieties. I'm not a great wine drinker, but like to buy it for presents and special occasions so why not stock it so it can be added to your weekly shop.
The supermarket wine buyers need to support our UK growers as they make a really good product.
