A real dilemma! What do you do?

Now here is a serious dilemma. When offered an After Eight mint from a box do you either take the mint in its little packet out of the box but then have to decide what to do with the packet. Or do you just take the mint, leaving the packet in the box and thereby giving the impression that the box is fuller than it is? I am literally in the midst of this situation right now. Fortunately I am at home so it is only DH and me here, but what if I was in company!!!

I’m a cheapskate, I buy the Tesco version so no paper packet to worry about.

Chewbacca Wed 17-Nov-21 21:19:22

So any advice as to a suitable punishment for him!!????

Staple every empty wrapper to his underpants. Whether he's wearing them at the time or not will depend upon how ???? you are with him.

I don’t like chocolate, but I’d give one away to play the knicker race!

Lizbethann55 Wed 17-Nov-21 20:06:24

Thank you all for your advice. I will definitely try freezing them and also the knicker trick. And thank you so much for giving me an idea about disposing of my chewing gum. Lacking a bed post to put it on, I have often worried about how to deal with both. ??
The trouble is that while I have been slaving away at work all day, my DH has finished the box off!!
So any advice as to a suitable punishment for him!!????

I'm not sure what the etiquette is for discarded wrappers.
Imagine if the box swept past you and you took out what looked like a mint but was only an empty wrapper, though?
What's the polite thing to do then?

wildswan16 Wed 17-Nov-21 09:16:05

But if, in polite society, you take it out with the wrapper - then what do you do with the wrapper? (Apart from making it into a pair of knickers!)

Screw it up and throw it on the coffee table, discreetly put it in your pocket, deposit it in an empty coffee cup?

MissAdventure Wed 17-Nov-21 08:57:49

I know how to make a party swing. grin

Chewbacca Wed 17-Nov-21 08:51:56

Now that's class MissA! grin You're proper posh you are!

MissAdventure Wed 17-Nov-21 08:38:27

You could have a race!
smile
Winner gets an extra mint.

MissAdventure. I’m definitely going try that when friends are here over Xmas.

Santana Wed 17-Nov-21 08:26:21

Have they got smaller, or is it my imagination?

MissAdventure Wed 17-Nov-21 08:24:08

You take the wrapper too, then while you're munching your mint, you tear off the two bottom corners, so it ends up like a little pair of knickers.
Then you put them on 2 fingers, and pretend it's a person walking around in their pants. smile
I always do that.

Dark chocolate turns my stomach over. Why are minty flavoured chocolates always in dark chocolate? I love the mint taste but can only eat milk or white chocolate.

GagaJo Wed 17-Nov-21 00:03:00

Have you tried them frozen? OMG. Amazing.

Scones

In To The Manor Born the lady of the manor complained about people leaving the wrappers in the box as she'd ended up offering the Lord Lieutenant a box of waste paper.

I think they are horrible things but then I hate everything that tastes or smells of mint.

Sago Tue 16-Nov-21 22:12:51

Being a posh lass from up north I know a bit abart this kinda stuff, the fancy wrapper bag thing is to put ya chewing gum in so yer can enjoy the posh mint.
Leave the bag on the coffee table and put your chewy back in as you leave.

welbeck Tue 16-Nov-21 21:52:10

was it vegan chocolate, so long ago, in a mainstream product ?
i imagined chocolate always had milk in it.
but i haven't eaten any since 1972, so don't know.

Kali2 Tue 16-Nov-21 21:45:51

Yuk- no thanks!

Hetty58 Tue 16-Nov-21 21:44:35

They changed the recipe (about twenty years ago) so they're no longer vegan. Before that, no problem - I'd just take the box and eat them all!

Elizabeth27 Tue 16-Nov-21 21:35:16

I take the mint with the packet and then do that thing where you look around not knowing where to put it until the box is offered back to put it in.

At home I just take the mint then am disappointed when I think there are some left when it's all empty packets.

kittylester Tue 16-Nov-21 21:34:23

Keep hold of the box and eat the ones that are left - it's a public service!

mokryna Tue 16-Nov-21 21:26:29

I’m in with Blossoming, I’ll have what she leaves.

Shinamae Tue 16-Nov-21 21:18:06

Peasblossom

Mints still in the After Eight box?
And still in wrapper.
A failure of hosting I’m afraid.

Arrange on silver plate only with Fortnum and Mason bag lurking discreetly in the background ?

??????
