Baked Beans excessive sauce

Anyone else noticed that tins of beans, we use Branston or Heinz, have a lot more sauce in the last 2/3 months?
Anyone recommend some that aren’t swimming beans please?

Everyone's doing it. Reducing the size and making a big thing about how considerate they are to the consumer by keeping the price the same. Years ago Ryvita had a tin you could send away for and it took exactly 1 packet of Ryvita. I still use that tin today but a new packet doesn't fill the tin. I could fit another 5-6 crispbreads in to fill it.

Just had beans on toast for supper, Waitrose own brand, so many beans there was almost too little sauce.

I bought some tins of Waitrose beans as they were on offer, have yet to try them.
I don't like too much sauce, it makes gf toast go soggy.

I haven't tried M & S. Yet.

M&S - good ratio of beans to sauce.

I love beans on toast; one of my favourite things, saucy or otherwise.
Branston is the most flavoursome and stodgy, I think.

Tins!

I'm for M&S beans as well. Excellent quality and only 35p a large tin. Also love their time of tomato soup at 50p a tin

Two tins of M&S beans purchased, I’ll report back when we’ve tried them.

I like Lidl baked beans (with soy sauce) best I've tried nearly all the others except M&S.

Yes Eccles cakes are shrinking, cheapest place to buy them Home Bargains.

I don't like baked beans but other half does and definitely noticed less beans & more sauce, I drain some away prior to heating. The shrinking quantities for the same money/or more seems to be getting worse. Anyone else buy Eccles cakes (major brand) they seem to be shrinking fast, will soon be the size of a 50p piece. Activia yoghurt, used to be 125g now 120 per pot and if you check the quantities on many of the manufacturers larger pots of yoghurt they are now 450 instead of 500g.

I have noticed more sauce lately in my small tins of Heinz beans
One tin I opened only had 3 beans and loads of sauce but that was just a production error.

Bigger and bigger cardboard tube, and looser and looser rolled WC paper too- shrinking chocolate bars, and so many more. Do they really think we are sooo stupid that we don't notice!

I used to think the tin with the extra sauce or juice was the one from the end of the production line but it is happening more often now.

Yes, they charge the same price but downsize and think we're too daft to realise!

I love the Lidl own brand beans. Have forsaken all other brands, now.

I like the taste of Branson beans but sadly they don’t like me! I have had to switch back to Heinz.

growstuff Fri 10-Dec-21 08:08:37

I prefer mixed beans to baked beans. They're more expensive, but I like the bigger beans which are included. I think there's less sauce and they're less mushy. I pour off most of the sauce. Maybe I should do an experiment and weigh what's left.

tanith, very interesting - about the multipacks. I've had some that are more like bean soup, so I'll buy the single cans again now. Still, they are one of my favourite snacks.

Envy flag is flying high in mid Cornwall as I'd love to try some M+S beans, after your recommendation Zoejory. One day perhaps but a 45 minute journey to the nearest store makes it a very expensive tin of beans.

I swapped to Branston from Heinz a few months ago and the juice is far less and they are cheaper. Taste good as well. Richer sauce.

I'm going to try Spar. Will report back soon.

Yes, let us know! I keep banging on to people about M&S baked beans. People have started to believe I have shares in them.

Also, pick up a tin of tuna chunks in spring water. Best tinned tuna I've ever eaten!

M0nica Fri 10-Dec-21 07:45:49

I buy Waitrose own brand. Nothing wrong with them.

Allegretto Fri 10-Dec-21 07:20:24

I have also been thinking there’s too much sauce in the Heinz (multipacks of) beans I buy. I will try Branston ……….

Grannyme6 Thu 09-Dec-21 23:26:46

We’ve noticed as well how much more sauce there
in the Heinz tins. We tend to buy the Barbecue or Curry varieties which are not so sloppy.

Kittye Thu 09-Dec-21 23:06:38

Aldi beans for me. Failing that Branson, Heinz are my least favourite ☹️

Shelflife Thu 09-Dec-21 23:04:38

Recently switched to Branston baked beans ,love them !
