I've bought a slow cooker for younger daughter for Christmas and thought of buying a recipe book to go with it, but the number available is mind blowing. Can anyone recommend a good book with fairly basic everyday recipes , preferably with pictures?

I have a Tower slow cooker recipe book which covers a range of recipes, from stews, puddings, joints, even jam. I use it for reference regularly. I’ve had it a long time though, so don’t know if it’s still in print.

I forgot to say, the author is Annette Yates.

I have a book called ‘Ultimate Slow Cooker’ by Sara Lewis which I use constantly. Beautiful full page recipes, most with colour photos. It was first published by Hamlyn in 2008 but still available to buy new from Amazon (I’m sure there are other sources as well). I gave my son a copy of the same book some years ago and he recently misplaced it, I was able to buy the new one only a few weeks ago for him.

I have a Tower Pressure Cooker book by Annette Yates which is excellent. That was back in the late 70’s however.

Yes, I suspect it will probably be out of print now. However, there are other slow cooker recipe books on Amazon by the same author, so they might be worth a look.

We got a good recipe book with our crockpot, but it contains American measures and items not normally used here. We have also used the BBC good food slow cooker book and have done a range of the recipes quite regularly. To be frank, I have gained more from reading generally about how to use a crock pot, less liquid, how to adjust seasoning, how to arrange items so everything cooks are the right pace etc, then I just adapt my normal recipes.

Ayearofslowcooking.com by Stephanie O'Dea. I learned more from her blog than any of the slow cooker books I bought. She decided to use her slow cooker every day for a year trying out her own recipes. She then posted the results, good and bad! And the reactions of her family. Very funny but so informative.

I like Cook's Kitchen Slow Cooking published in 2015 by Igloo Books. Every recipe on a double page spread with clear instructions and beautiful illustrations.
