My weekly Tesco shop definitely costs more now and I buy pretty much the same basic items each time - meat, fish, fruit and veg I buy locally. And last week I noticed my 4 pack of own brand loo roll was a great deal smaller.

Why hasn’t flour risen in price in the last 15 years?

Can we have an idea of what’s on your shopping list 62Granny, as although I buy roughly the same each week my shopping bill is definitely increasing. Specific things costing me more are dog food, coffee beans, tinned food like tomatoes and sweetcorn, rice and pasta. I don’t think it is scaremongering, there are genuine increases on many items.

I only filled my car with petrol x2 last year and I filled my car up just before the price shot up to £1.50 a litre for unleaded. A good job I rarely need the car at present.

Regarding food, I look for food when it is reduced or is a bargain such as 3 sirloin steaks for a tenner. I bulk cook and freeze items such as spag bol.

Where I live a roll costs 50p- that is 10 shillings in old money!!!

Yes everything is going up from basic store cupboard food to fruit, vegetables, meat and fish. Planning our meals ahead and having a list helps. We also bulk cook and put these meals in the freezer. We look for say our favourite coffee when it is on offer and buy a few jars. Another interesting thing is that it is not always cheaper to buy for example a four tin pack of tomatoes often the individual ones are better priced. If you have time to do this those little savings of say 50p on an item can soon add up to £4 or £5 off your weekly shopping bill. What was the old saying was it look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves. Every little bit of saving helps.

62Granny - I agree! I said to my husband when we received our online delivery the other day, that the things I had bought were the things I have often bought and most of the prices are the same as they were last year. My bills are roughly the same as they were all last year and I tend to stick to what's in my 'favourites' list as it's quick and easy. But isn't most of what the media say, just scare-mongering, in general?! I do make sure that I buy certain things when they are on offer, like 3 for 2, or clubcard offers etc. Butter was on offer this week, the one I usually buy, so I bought five - that'll last me a while! I won't buy them again until they're on offer again. Perhaps that's why I haven't noticed any rises to speak of, I just buy in bulk whenever the things are on offer!!

I spent approximately £90 on a big food shop the other day. I was aghast to see how little I actually had for the amount spent. For example, a spread I have bought for years usually costing £1 is now £1.50. It seems every time I do a food shop things are more expensive. Im glad OP if you are coping and don't find much difference. I have found prices really increasing. My husband filled the car the other day with diesel, fifty pounds did not even buy us a full tank.

I think so too. My weekly shop is definitely going up a lot. Particularly cat food and household goods. I’m also glad I only work occasionally now, as petrol is soooo expensive.

Items here are certainly going up dramatically!

I have seen numerous articles on the rising cost of our weekly shop but to be honest my shopping bill is more or less exactly the same as 12months ago. I have a weekly delivery with one of the main supermarkets and may pick up a few extras . I looked back at last year's bank statement and the amount are exactly the same. I don't feel I have made any adjustments and over the course of the month probably buy the same items most weeks. How are others finding it are we being wound up by the media yet again. I understand people who are on certain benefits have seen it reduced.
