Too much icing on cake, especially cup cakes!

Hmm, I just like the topping - less interested in the cake!

Just a,plain mince pie, mind.

None of this fancy icing or strange fillings.

Same here. I much prefer a plain cake like ginger or a mince pie.

I agree. I stopped buying cakes as they taste much too sweet.

Totally agree

I love an eccles cake. No frosting at all.
Or bread pudding..

I love carrot cake but not all the frosting on and in it.

Totally with you on this one. I don't buy cupcakes for that very reason.
That said, a proper walnut cake deserves a goodly covering of coffee butter icing any day!

I don't eat anything like that.
Just too much everything in, and on, cakes nowadays.

I completely agree; I bought some beautifully decorated cupcakes locally but at least 50% was the frosting, the amount of which would have been really sickly to eat.

I am a spoil sport or does anyone else think that the trend to put too much frosting on cakes is simply wrong? I want to taste the cake and not be overwhelmed by pretty, often discarded frosting. It seems that excessive frosting is for the esoteric benefit of the cake decorator.
