Hi,
I’m in the middle of prepping my Xmas pud and realised, I forgot to buy the 75ml of stout. Is there anything else alcoholic or otherwise I could use.

Hi Minxie I have used brandy in mine before

Or sherry.

Most alcohols are fine - or even strong black tea.
You will be adding plenty of alcohol when you flame it.

(But secretly, isn’t it a bit late to be making one?)

Thanks ladies,

The recipe I usually use is a Fanny Craddock one which is meant to be made 3 days before. It's really good.

This year, it's a Sainsbury's one from last year in reality.

A bottle of cider?
Or any wine, but not a pint!

I use my mother's recipe which states 'a bottle of old ale'.
No idea what old ale is so I used Hobgoblin which is rich and has a toffee flavour.

It's only 75 ml - 5 tbs! My recipe has a bit more than that!

Can you leave it mid-mix and buy some tomorrow? My old GH recipe (1/3 of a pint of brown ale) says you can leave it overnight before boiling/steaming.

I think any alcohol would do. I tend to use up the things I have left eg. Grand Marnier, Cointreau which have been bought for recipes then not used up.

I use Delia Smith’s recipe and have done for years. She uses Guinness and Barley Wine. Barley Wine- which isn’t wine but a very strong beer- has become very hard to find so this year used a strong cider instead. Plus a good dollop of brandy!
