I used to get wholemeal/bran biscuits which were not sweet and ideal with cheese. They were oblong in shape.
It's quite a few years since I have had any but suddenly fancy them with a nice stilton or brie. I've wracked my brains but for the life of me can't remember their name.

jaxjacky my local Sainsbury have started selling crispbakes! I love them, haven't had them for years.
kalu how do you remember I like Ryvitas? I can't remember my name half the time grin anyway I've gone off them now! hmm

Can I just ask if anyone here is crackers on Ritz? I love them, but they changed completely about 3 months ago. The texture is completely different and I'm not keen. I'm thinking of complaining.

My DH loves the thin crispy ones so we're both happy!

I eat all the Hovis ones in the mixed boxes. Mr A gets left with all the really thin, dry ones 😄

And I remember when mcvities digestives came in two versions/ wholemeal and sweet meal
Now only sweet which are good of course but I liked the less sweet whole meal ones best

Oh yes!! I miss Huntley and Palmer's Breakfast biscuits.

In a box of mixed ‘biscuits for cheese’ I notice everyone dives for the Hovis one : wouldn’t you think, Fox and others would make bran biscuits again, or at least canvass shoppers to ask what we would like.

I am still mourning the loss of H&P Breakfast Biscuits, some things in life I cannot forgive.

I don’t know these biscuits Mazgg, sorry. But I’m on the hunt for Crispbakes, if anyone can help?

Asda do their own …

I loved those Fox’s bran biscuits - used to stock up when I could find them. When thdd we y became impossible to find I even contacted Fox’s! Told they weren’t selling well enough so production was stopped. Have never found any similar!

I like Lidl’s dry biscuits - they do a few different varieties.

I’m another who liked the Fox’s Bran biscuits and have never found a replacement that is as good. Tesco did their own version for a while but that’s also disappeared. I tend to stick to oatcakes and Matzos now but if a savoury biscuit new to me is on special offer I’ll usually give it a try.
Jaxjacky I’ve seen Crispbakes when I do my Tesco order online.

I thought they ight be Hovis biscuits. Have had some that were similar in a mixed box for cheese they seem to go particularly well with a "blue" cheese, yummy.

Hovis biscuits

shysal Tue 27-Dec-22 15:49:55

The Hovis loaf-shaped ones are ideal with blue cheese.

Mazgg Tue 27-Dec-22 15:47:25

Thank you all, they were indeed Fox's. Haven't seen them for a long time so assume they are sadly discontinued.
I suppose oat cakes will be the next best alternative.

ParlorGames Tue 27-Dec-22 15:40:28

The OP description matches the savoury biscuits my Gran used to buy. They were McVita crackers and made by McVities. They were wholemeal, oblong in shape and quite thin. I haven't seen them for years though.

Margs Tue 27-Dec-22 15:31:22

Sainsbury sold something similar to your description, once upon a time.
A unique taste - neither obviously sweet nor obviously savoury but just right for cheese (Shropshire Blue for example).
And better than cream crackers, IMHO.

mumofmadboys Tue 27-Dec-22 15:08:33

not Hovis biscuits?

Kalu Tue 27-Dec-22 14:53:40

I was a fan of Fox’s Bran biscuits but they seem to have disappeared and the only alternative I buy now are Ryvita Bran which I notice have shrunk!
I remember you were a Ryvita fan too Lona. 👋

NotAGran55 Tue 27-Dec-22 14:45:44

Crossed post!

NotAGran55 Tue 27-Dec-22 14:45:22

I think they were made by Fox’s and were discontinued a few years ago sadly.

Lona Tue 27-Dec-22 14:43:57

Were they Fox's Bran biscuits? I used to love them but they've disappeared.
