Whatever happened to Chesswood creamed mushrooms? Also Biotex? Are there any once popular products that you miss?

I’ve just looked them up! The ones I recall from childhood were made by Lyons, they were called Showboats.
And while I was reading there was a reference to cider ice lollies. delish…

Oooh 😯 we’re they the ones with the thick chocolate shell filled with soft sponge cake in various flavours?

ixion Sun 12-Mar-23 18:59:13

Kunzle cakes!!

SachaMac Sun 12-Mar-23 15:15:25

A couple of other minty things I miss, Cadburys Ice Breaker Chocolate Bar & Opal Mints.

Wow,NotTooOld,i was only talking about Toast Toppers to my Dh the other day.
I have looked for them in the shops and on line,no luck at all.
I loved them.

Ooh yes! Crackerbarrel cheese and Clarninco Peppermint Creams were old favourites.

Weight watchers low cal fromage frais with a layer of fruit in the bottom.

Astral soap for me too and their body cream
Abbey crunch biscuits which we devoured by the ton as students.
Mcvites individual digestive biscuits in blue and red silver paper .

We ate brains faggots last week, £1.09 for 6, delicious.

Grannmarie Sat 11-Mar-23 09:41:40

Plumrose tinned ham risotto...

Calendargirl Sat 11-Mar-23 09:15:39

Symingtons Table Cream.

A sort of upmarket blancmange.

Smoother, and just more ‘upmarket’ somehow.

Ro60 Sat 11-Mar-23 08:07:03

Sainsbury's yoghurt & chives dressing in a jar.
Oh Yes! - the vesta packs - especially the prawn paella - probably the MSG drew me to it. I do wonder would I enjoy it as much now?

Jelly tots - I bought some for my GD the other day - they're not the same - harder, larger & rounder - probably less E numbers.

Dinaclass curry powder. Loved it, and they're selling it again at our butchers. Also 'for mash get Smash'

BigBertha1 Sat 11-Mar-23 06:17:01

Astral soap. Loved the smell and the unusual shape which fitted nearly in the hand.

I find many popular food items disappear. Marks used to sell minced lamb kebabs and tandoori chicken. No longer.

I do love Brains faggots but often end up with the 6 pack. OH isn’t a fan, so I only need two.

MiniMoon Fri 10-Mar-23 23:38:11

Cheese Whiz. Made by Kraft. I loved this as a child, but it disappeared at about the time we joined the EU. I think it may have had ingredients banned in Europe.

SachaMac Fri 10-Mar-23 22:54:34

St Ivel Lactic Cheese Spread, as a child I used to love it on cream crackers for supper.

BigBertha1 Fri 10-Mar-23 22:30:58

My Mothercare by BeRo flour...can you still get it?

crazyH Fri 10-Mar-23 21:29:05

My children used to love Savoury Pancakes with Minced Beef filling - so did I 😂

Granmarderby10 Fri 10-Mar-23 21:06:40

I like tinned fruit in syrup rather than in juice which sneakily often turns out to be other than the fruits natural juice, commonly grape juice😡
I suspect that there are many products discontinued here but still sold all over the world because of the conglomerates that own the brands.

Granmarderby10 Fri 10-Mar-23 20:47:43

Ha! Redhead56 the Duo can. I wonder what it is they do to products that get “reintroduced” after many years that renders them not as good…cheaper ingredients or missing ingredient etc. Of course “they’re” unlikely to reveal the secrets😏

BlueBelle Fri 10-Mar-23 20:13:27

I used to love something that no one’s ever heard of Biscuits called Dads Cookies

Redhead56 Fri 10-Mar-23 19:59:53

Toast toppers my favourites years ago I make my own version now. Brains faggots still available in the shops freezer section. Frozen pancakes are too neither of these products are as they were. Does anyone remember curry and rice in a tin beef curry one end rice the other. My mum used to boil the tin in a pan it was in the 70s about the time Vesta dried meal were popular.
