Meal Deals

Meal Deals in Wales will be subject to bans on certain foods from 2025.

As someone who used to sometimes buy a lunch meal deal from M&S or Boots, which never seemed that unhealthy to (perhaps uneducated!) me, consisting of a prawn mayonnaise on oat bread sandwich, crisps (!) and water or fruit juice, I never felt guilty.

Are meal deals a real health problem or is this too much interfering by a Nanny State?

Let's all just drink water and eat dust...

Fever Tree mixes contain no artificial sweeteners, neither do some other makes.

But many contain Fructose (fruit sugar) which is not a healthy option!

my husband makes my sandwiches. I have never made his for him unless it is on a weekend. He makes the lunches as he gets up the earliest

Just for a bit of male/female balance smile

Indeed

Mine makes my coffees, teas, ice drinks. He's also better with salad greens, chopping tomatoes, dicing veg -- daily green salads.

Ah, takeaways.

Not Meal Deals. Now we're seeing the problems in some areas.

However, most people have a takeaway occasionally, it's when they have a constant diet of them that problems occur.

I live in what is considered to be a deprived part of a city.Alot of my neighbours could be classed as obese. Their main diet is takeaways, the local shopping street is full of them.
The thinner ones are on drugs.

Better safe than sorry. Thanks for the heads up. Thank goodness we’re still able to enjoy a bit of speed here!

Blimey. Better warn my son who’s having a holiday in Wales this month. Like me, he enjoys putting his foot down where appropriate. I wonder what this will do for the tourist industry?

It's not everywhere on motorways.

The 20 mph limit in residential areas will be fully implemented in September but seems to be fairly widespread already.

I'll make a fruit cake, it could have time to mature before you get here.

Callistemon21 Sat 01-Jul-23 18:19:28

Yes, and it's 20 mph in all towns and villages 😁

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 01-Jul-23 18:17:08

Oh that’s a kind thought but I can’t imagine how long it would take to get there! Are the Heddlu sitting on the borders waiting to nick us?

Callistemon21 Sat 01-Jul-23 18:15:17

Oh dear, I was just going to bake a cake and put the kettle on GSM!
Never mind 😁

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 01-Jul-23 17:59:59

I don’t think I’ll be going to Wales any time soon Callistemon. 50mph on a motorway? Zzzzzz
Mind you, if the Greens ever get into power we won’t have cars anyway.

Galaxy Sat 01-Jul-23 17:54:54

We seem to have survived without the packed lunch making GSM. There is a fascinating you tube series which is just clips of what wives have made for their husbands lunch. Its mind boggling and complete explains Americas obesity issues.

Too much interfering. If I don’t want crisps I don’t go for the meal deal. If I do, that’s my business!
I don’t get this, it’s no “deal” if you don’t want the product.
And crisps are hardly the spawn of the devil. Credit us with some intelligence! .

Indeed.

I'll watch my own diet, TYVM.

I know what portions I need, I count well. We all do.

I don't buy the sandwich meal deals now but I'll defend everyone's right to have the choice!

Actual,y, I just fancy an M&S prawn mayo sandwich on oat bread ......

The Welsh Government has also put speed restrictions on motorways in order to cut pollution, the theory being that vehicles travelling at 50mph cause less pollution than at 70mph.
The problem with that is that it causes huge tailbacks and the traffic ends up moving at 15 - 20 mph (if you're lucky) which causes more pollution lingering around.

They've stopped most major road building too, including
by-passes, which means traffic pollution will just get worse in towns where more and more housing is being built and gridlocks occur regularly.

Little kindnesses, Galaxy. Give some, get some back.

BlueBelle Sat 01-Jul-23 17:38:22

Just seen your photo is that a sandwich! But obviously Laver bet it’s expensive

BlueBelle Sat 01-Jul-23 17:34:58

Shinamae Seaweed in Chinese food is always known to have been friend cabbage or kale etc it’s gorgeous I do it myself sometimes
I don’t know about the sandwiches never seen them but I m totally sure it’s not seaweed 😂

Blondiescot Sat 01-Jul-23 17:26:06

I used to take my own lunches with me when I worked, but there were people who used to buy their lunches every day. Must have cost them a fortune. I do understand though that there could be occasions when you might be out and about and need to go and buy something for lunch. The demand must be there or they wouldn't sell them.

Thankfully I have never wasted time on making a packed lunch for my husband grin

Oh dear!

I never find cooking for anyone, particularly my husband a waste of time (or all his workers). I do cook 4-5 hours a day -- but I like to cook around times when I want to be in our kitchen, not out gardening or dog walking.

Galaxy Sat 01-Jul-23 17:20:27

Lots of people would think making a packed lunch for another grown adult who can make their own was a waste. That's the issue people value different things.

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 01-Jul-23 16:57:21

Making food for someone you love is surely never a waste of time. And sandwiches or a salad are so quick and easy to make. I had no idea Tesco sold ready made salads, I thought that was the stuff of Pret. Must get out more (though won’t be tempted by the ready made salads!).

Galaxy Sat 01-Jul-23 16:48:38

Putting a ready made salad (bought sandwiches are awful) on the online Tesco order certainly takes me less time than making a salad.
