On the back of the airfryer frenzy I bought a Tefal airfryer and grill, but I think I have made a mistake as we hardly use it , should I have bought one with roast , slow cooker etc, ?so confused

Grannygravy13 I started like you but found that I did not use my small air fryer that much because many things were too big to get in, especially when cooking for two.

When I upgraded, it was only a small up grade, both my previous and current airfryers are the saucepan kind, but just a few extra inches in diameter made such a difference. I can get two big chops, a small rolled joint, a game bird like a pheasant or wild duck in it into my current airfryer. I have a series of pottery and other containers that fit in it so that I can cook 'au gratin' dishes. i could do none of this with te slightly smaller one.

I ordered a small air fryer from Lakeland this week, it was on special offer.

My plan is to experiment with a small one and if I like it buy an all singing and dancing one and give the small one away.

Thanks Shinamae I’ll give that a go next time.

I would never exclude not buying anew gadget, but it is horses for courses. Bought an air fryer for the two of us and love it and use it frequently.

Bought a soup maker on a friend's ecommendation and was relieved when failed under guarantee andI could just get my money back. yes, we have soup frequently, but I really could not adjust my rough chop and hoy it in a saucepan with lots of water/stock method o the precision of a soup maker. yet my friend loves her.

Never say never, you might miss something really goood.

My 2 baked potatoes are quickest done in the microwave, but so much nicer crisped up in the airfryer.

I prick mine, put them in the microwave for a few minutes, then put oil and salt on them (I know!!) and finish them off in the air fryer they come out absolutely lovely…🤓

Air Fryer Baked Eggs with Cheese are my favourite quick, protein rich breakfast. Just Google.

I have an air fryer I bought it mainly to make healthy chips which I make using olive oil. Also use it for cooking fish, sausages, bacon, toasted sandwiches have cooked scones in it but back to using the oven for cakes now. What I use most is my Instant Pot. I also have a bread maker which was gathering dust in my cupboard but now I been pre mixing bread in it on Fermented Dough (2 rises) then bake in the oven it's delicious.

I use the air fryer quite a bit but it doesn't replace the main oven for everything. Horses for courses!

Another one here who says well worth the time to do research and then buy one.
I use mine several times a week , cooking for one or two.
Very happy with the results and even more happy with the reduction in my electricity bill.

I've been wondering about an airfryer for some time. I'm on my own and don't do a huge amount of cooking but I am very conscious that my oven costs every time I use it.
After reading this thread I'm going to investigate further.

Living by myself, I bought a compact airfryer. Very quickly realised how useful it was, but really was too small. Spent quite a time researching bigger ones, DId I want one with a shelf (No, too big, too muh worktop space taken up), one with two drawers (different foods put in each drawer but finish cooking at same time). Finally decided on one with ONE LARGE drawer - (if I want two different foods in there to be cooked at different times, I will put them in at different times. Can cope with same heat for them.

I love this machine, even has a window in the drawer so I can see how things are cooking. Still use my microwave, but with the exception of very large cakes, do not use my expensive Bosch oven at all. I think, that if I was having my kitchen re-done, would have a large airfryer oven fitted in and NOT have a normal oven at all.

Gave my small airfryer to one of my student g.children.

As with so many new gadgets, it takes a while to get used to them - but airfryers are definitely going to be a part of any good kitchen set up for a long time.

On the other hand, anyone still use their spirolizer???????

I have a Cosori Air Fryer which has the basic air fryer function. I've made everything from crumble to baked eggs in it which are so quick and easy for a quick and healthy breakfast:-) www.fabfood4all.co.uk/air-fryer-baked-eggs-with-cheese/

One reason air fryers are appearing in the charity shop where I go - is that people, having bought a small one, are getting a bigger one or vice versa. Some people simply cannot cope with them or find they don’t want to dehydrate food any more with an air fryer than they did without. Others wish they had one with greater capacity, and some, like my sis-in-law are almost afraid of it and don’t like to change from cooking with gas.

I have not had mine long but I use it several times a week and it has cut my electricity bills. I am on my own now and so I cook differently. I use the air fryer instead of the oven, with either one ring or the microwave for veg.
I also have a slow cooker which I use for casseroles etc.
No regrets at all.

Primrose53 Sun 23-Jul-23 21:34:06

I think the air fryer craze is on the wane. I have seen them in several charity shops now and that is usually a good guide.

My friend and her husband bought one and last time I asked her she said they used it quite a lot. She does hate cooking though and only likes plain stuff.

Every year or thereabouts, a new gadget arrives on the market. I’m on my own. I hardly use my pressure cooker. So no more new gadgets for me. 😂

Thought I was the only one smile

I think in previous times, people might have bought a ‘new gadget’ as a bit of a novelty, but I bought an air fryer to save money. We have a gas oven, which is now rarely used, and our energy bills are much reduced.

Charleygirl5 Sun 23-Jul-23 20:51:32

My oven is used as a cupboard. I live on my own so have no need for it as it took 20 minutes to heat up. I could have a meal almost ready by the time it was.

French fries are divine and although I hardly cook sausages there is no mess on the cooker. The smoke alarm in my kitchen is ultra-sensitive so that rarely happens now- only if I am using the gas hob as well.

It has saved me a lot of money over the last 2 years.

Greyduster Sun 23-Jul-23 17:44:30

I have an air fryer oven with shelves and rarely use my conventional oven unless cooking a roast for the family. It’s brilliant for fish such as salmon, cod fillets and smoked haddock, and steaks, chicken, chops and baking pies. I’m afraid I have a fondness for German bratwurst sausages and it cooks them quickly without them spitting all over the place like conventional sausages. Makes brilliant very light scones. Extremely easy to clean too. I’ve never fiddled around with the accessories, but my trained chef DS made lovely kebabs and rotisserie chicken in it. Home made chips are a bit hit and miss, but I don’t eat them much anyway.

Mollygo - thank you.
I don't have/use a microwave!
I would need to buy both then I suppose... But I do love baked potatoes!

I hardly use my oven since I bought my small Airfryer with veg in the microwave and everything else in the Airfryer my oven is almost obsolete.

We are the same, we only use the oven if we have family with us for a meal, we only tend to use the air fry, bake or grill functions though.

Mollygo Sun 23-Jul-23 11:21:55

ethelwulf Sun 23-Jul-23 10:05:21

Hardly used the oven since I bought my middle of the range air=fryer in the sales. So handy and versatile, and is in use on a virtually daily basis. Also great for healthy eating, and of course, saves money on the energy bills. I'd invest in a cheap recipe book, and you might be pleasantly surprised, Still wouldn't be without my large slow cooker for batch cooking stews, casseroles, currys etc. for freezing.

NotSpaghetti Sun 23-Jul-23 09:48:12

Yesterday I made a spanakopita - it barely fits in my oven. The day before my husband made bread in a bread oven (in the oven) and the day before that I made a tagine for six.

My feeling is that an air-fryer would have been a good idea for the 2 baked potatoes the day before, but I suspect my oven would still be in good use.

Visgir1 Sun 23-Jul-23 08:34:31

Don't know what I would do now without my Air fryer. Hardly used my oven since I got it.
As others have said if it goes in an oven, it can go in an Air fryer.
