Gwyllt, I have a husband like yours. Not just the freezer but the pantry as well. We live in a village so tend to do online shopping and he seems to think we will starve if we don’t have multiples of everything! A good idea to use making room for Christmas things to get him to ease up on the ordering.

I try to do a freezer cull every six months, and it's due now, if I'm to get anything in there for Christmas.

Yep I'm having some slightly odd meals to make room for the new frozen purchases/ makes...some successful, some not so much...

I normally date things that I have made and put in the freezer and have a list on the door saying what is on each shelf. It helps when planning meals and means that stuff in there gets used and not overlooked. Well it works for me anyway.

I defrosted the freezer last weekend after running it down for a few weeks. Getting ready to stock up on ice cream and home made dishes as everyone is staying here over Christmas.

Already there with having defrosted the freezer. Now just getting ready to do a meat order to cover us for a few months and then lots of Christmas nibbles that we like.
We buy in a selection of freezer bits from various shops like M&S, Iceland etc and then cook up a couple of each to give us a selection to munch on along with a beer or glass of wine/Baileys.
We love the Xmas/New Year time just for this and it's easy to cater for anyone who drops in!

I was forced to clean out and defrost my freezer, when the door wouldn’t stay shut!
I did dump some ice lollies and Oreo ice creams and had to be a bit ruthless with other odds and ends, so I could cram everything into another empty freezer overnight. (Long story)
Now I’ve an empty drawer just waiting to be filled. Possibly a selection of frozen vegetables, as I’m not a Christmas person.

Its another case of time whizzing by when you find something you can distinctly remember buying and there it has languished for 5 years or more. And it only seems like yesterday

You should try clearing the freezer with a husband who is a compulsive shopper He is a sucker for yellow sticker items
We have two chest freezers in the stables. The second one he insisted buying at start of covid. Never know what I’ll find in there. Sometimes it’s like the old TV series “Ready steady cook “. Did manage to get it down when he broke his elbow earlier this year. But not for long once he was back driving

when my son lived with me, he would call and ask if i could make a tidy up meal, this would be from freezer items ie chicken nuggets, sausages, waffles, hash browns and anything else that needed using, he has had his own houses for years but i still give him ready meals to take home, even though they have a fridge freezer and a chest freezer that is always full, they buy in bulk every few months.

Snap, I've been doing the same this week.DD commented that the standard of midweek food has gone up. I found a chicken breast joint that I did not put on the delivery order the other week, accepted and forgot about.
I've also had to sneak some out-of-date fish into the refuse bag and melted two big tubs of ice cream down the sink. GC will not be visiting for quite a while and they prefer a Cornetto anyway. The ice cream tubs will be used to freeze mince pies.
I am now buying variety packs of cereals for them. Over the years I have thrown away enough Cocoa pops to feed an army!blush

Same here, only a very small freezer so I must clear out all the stuff that’s been stuck in there for ages and start using things up to make room for Christmas turkey, ham and so on. Be good to clean it at the same time☺️

Like the stuffing and lots of pigs in blankets I’ll be making in advance soon - our freezer is only an ‘under the fridge’ one.

For breakfast I just had 4 fish fingers left over from the Gdcs’ recent visit!
Lots of other bits to use up, which will mean less food shopping in the run up, too.
I just found 2 pork chops I’d completely forgotten about, and they haven’t even been in there very long. A good clear out was overdue anyway.
