What can you do with left over lamb?

I cooked shoulder of lamb yesterday and it was lovely. My husband sliced it all up and there was quite a lot left.

It just looks so revolting cold with little blobs of fat all over. đŸ€ź

What could I do with it other than give it to a neighbour’s dog?

If you aren’t going to use left overs- maybe don’t buy lamb 🙃

I might not like the lamb but my DH loves it so do I deprive him all his life like my father did my mother by not eating the leftovers. I can eat it roasted but hate the white fat the day after. It's a bit jack Sprat but the other way round.hmm

Eat it cold. I adore lamb in any shape or form - except rehashed. Whatever you do with it, once it’s reheated it seems to have a peculiarly unpleasant aftertaste. Even in curry it doesn’t seem to be quite right.

Send me your cold lamb, I love it. Cold beef or chicken? Yuk.

Hate cold lamb so I'd put it in the bin.

So would I, strange isn’t it as cold beef or cold chicken are great.
Have tried lots of recipes mentioned above and just don’t like re hashed lamb.
Either into the nearest dog or a bin.

Definitely a tagine, I would boil the bone for stock cook with the stock, dried apricots, tomato purée, onion peppers, aubergine and a jar of Belazu harissa paste.

Well done Primrose, if I hadn’t fancied a curry then I’d have frozen it for another “ roast dinner day”.

For us separate the fat and make a curry, use up any spare veg as well, even sprouts, mid week is a highlight here.
Beef or Lamb in Curry, Chicken or Pork in Sweet and Sour

I froze it in the end. Thanks.

I just slice it and freeze it in the gravy makes a quick lunch with a baked potato for my OH

I love lamb, undoubtedly my favourite meat, but like you Witzend I like it throughly cooked.

In fact I cannot face undercooked meat of any kind. Even a photograph of undercooked 'pink'(red) beef can turn my stomach, but well cooked roast lamb, with mint sauce, there is nothing more delicious and any other meal made with lamb is equally delicious.

I loathe all meat fat, so if I ever I buy lamb shoulder, I cook it until virtually all the fat’s melted off it. The crispy bits are the best!

TBH I always want my lamb well done anyway, regardless of fat. Which is one reason for being a fan of the kleftiko (stolen lamb) they do in Cyprus - cooked in bread ovens until it falls apart.

Suleiman's pilaf is a great dish. See Elizabeth David's Mediterranean Food. The BBC food version is pretty good too.

We normally season and warm up and put in pittas with salad
Or in a curry

Delia Smiths rissoles or Shepherds pie. If no ones looking bin it, picking off the white globules of fat makes me wretch.

OldFrill Mon 27-Nov-23 22:33:05

Stovies served with pickled beetroot

Indian Rissoles - mince the lamb, add chopped onions, grated fresh ginger (or powder) mash potatoes, garam masala, egg, chopped coriander leaf, chilli powder., salt and pepper. Mix well. Form into balls in the palm of your hand and then flatten a bit to form a thick biscuit shape. Dip in flour and shallow fry on both sides.

Save some shepherd’s pie and instead of mash mix in a tin of red kidney beans with chilli. Then you can have savoury cobbler on top. Another yummy.

I hope not kitty. No animal deserves to be thrown in the bin.

It’s begging to be turned into shepherd’s pie. Grate some cheese on top and it’s really yummy. If you don’t want it send to me.

Primrose53 Mon 27-Nov-23 22:05:34

We don’t have lamb very often and this was a big piece. I hate waste so normally just buy enough for one meal with no leftovers.

Picking all those blobs of fat off sounds very painstaking!
Some great ideas, thanks everyone 👏👏

Love left over roast lamb. Sacrilege to feed it to the dog, especially when it's so expensive. So many lovely choices for you .

Ziplok Mon 27-Nov-23 21:52:30

Such a waste to throw it away or feed it to the dog. It can be made into lots of things as already suggested - it doesn’t have to be eaten cold if you don’t like it cold.

I’ve made it into shepherds pie, stir fried it with veg, made a curry, and made a pie in the past.

It will freeze if you don’t want to use the lamb straight away to make these dishes but do something with it at a later date.

What can't you do with left over lamb! 1) curry it, 20 moussaka, 3 meatballs in tomato sauce 4) Just heat it through in gravy 5) shepherd's pie 6) use it in any lamb stew or casserole recipe. 7) heat it through, pull it and stuff in pittas with middle eastern seasoning , 8) or in burger buns with the usual things to go with it, 9)Put it in risoto with mushrooms, 10, use it to fill a pie with lots of tasty gravy.

So much choice! 😊

Fry up with chopped onions and a harrisa paste and serve with roasted veg and cous cous + lots of chopped mint. Lamb is an expensive meat which certainly wouldn't be fed to the dog!
