It is something I would never think of serving, as cheese sauce and gravy on the same plate seems odd to me. Do lots of you serve this and why, when there are so many traditional trimmings without? grin

Since we have stopped eating meat, I only make a roast dinner when family are here. There is always a space on the plate for us non-meat eaters and cauliflower cheese fills the gap perfectly. It will be on my table on 25th.

Ive made that for Christmas Dinner...Have what you like

BlueBelle Thu 07-Dec-23 15:14:14

It all goes down the same wayโ€ฆ. why not

icanhandthemback Thu 07-Dec-23 15:12:43

Yes! I have it with everything I can. Last night I had it with Beef Bourguignon and it was divine!

I love cauliflower, and I love cheese, but cauliflower cheese, no thank you, it's as bad as mac and cheese

DrWatson Thu 07-Dec-23 14:34:03

To ALL the people saying, re Cauli Cheese, "NO, don't like it", or "not in our house" - that's not the point. People like all sorts of different things, if YOU like Cauli Cheese, (or your guest would like some), then it's OK. Not everyone likes cranberry, or sprouts, or parsnips (I know, ridiculous, but it's their choice) etc.

But as those commenters have said, keep the gravy away from the cheesy bit.

Yep. Cauliflower cheese and Yorkshire pudding with Christmas lunch definitely

Millie22 Thu 07-Dec-23 13:21:59

Love it ๐Ÿ’—

Mine is in the freezer ready for Christmas day.

Chocolatelovinggran Thu 07-Dec-23 13:16:11

I'd have cauliflower cheese with anything, thank you..well maybe not ice cream, but ..

mokryna Thu 07-Dec-23 13:13:00

What ever takes your fancy but for me no. I still serve what I had as a child, turkey, roast potatoes and parsnips with Brussels sprouts and carrots. No Yorkshire pudding, which for me accompanies roast beef nor mash potatoes.
I live in France so it is the typical English Christmas Day lunch/ dinner, however Christmas Eve we celebrate the French way. But you may think 2 celebratory meals in two days, well there is no Boxing Day/bankholiday, itโ€™s back to work if it is a weekday.

We have cauliflower cheese too and yorkies with the turkey - always brussel sprouts and mashed swede - because I love it and use the water in the gravy. No rules on Christmas day lunch for us

mrsjonesy Thu 07-Dec-23 12:56:48

I wouldn't have it with a Christmas dinner because our plates are full enough with the roast parsnips and carrots, but we have it with roast lamb or pork dinners and love it. I've never minded if the cheese sauce and gravy got mixed up a little. It all goes down the same road, as my old grandad used to say.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 07-Dec-23 12:45:01

Wot, no roasted carrots or red cabbage 3nanny6?

Fae1 Thu 07-Dec-23 12:35:14

I would never have dreamt of cauliflower cheese with Christmas dinner until a few years ago. I'd prepared the veg (including a cauli) and left my dil to make dinner as she loves cooking. She asked if she could take over while I put my feet up. She made cauliflower cheese out of the cauli and it was a lovely extra accompaniment to a Christmas dinner with all the other trimmings. Yummy ! So yes I would recommend it. Not odd at all.

Large plates come out in my house for Christmas lunch so enough room for cauliflower cheese, keep the cauliflower cheese up one end and put the turkey or other meat and potatoes the other end where you can add the gravy then parsnips and sprouts in the centre and cranberry sauce up by turkey job done delicious dinner. I found lovely broccoli in cheese sauce a few weeks ago in supermarket and have used it on roast dinner a few times so delicious.

Yes to cauliflower cheese No to gravy

Mim23 Thu 07-Dec-23 12:18:02

Always totally delish!

Shirls52000 Thu 07-Dec-23 11:58:18

Love cauliflower cheese either as a standalone dish with baked potato or as a side dish with Sunday roast, when we get together on a Sunday my family love it

Septimia Thu 07-Dec-23 11:53:37

I prefer cauliflower cheese as a main course. These days I usually wrap the raw cauliflower in a thin layer of pastry and cook it in the oven. The cauliflower tastes much better than when boiled. When it's done I split the pastry open and pour the cheese sauce in and over it. Tasty with bacon and baked beans!

I would eat it with a roast if it was served to me. As I don't like gravy, that wouldn't be a problem. Yorkshire puddings only go with beef - or as a toad-in-the-hole!

No Yorkshire pudding unless we have beef for Christmas dinner.

I seem to be the only one who likes turkey.

Casdon Wed 06-Dec-23 21:33:23

No Yorkshire puddings, but yes to cauliflower cheese. We always had it with Christmas dinner when I was a child, so it is traditional, in my family at least. Iโ€™d guess though if we all listed exactly what we have there would be quite a bit of variation.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 06-Dec-23 21:27:06

Nooo, not Yorkshire puddings with Christmas dinner.

Chardy Wed 06-Dec-23 20:50:57

Yes to Yorkshires too. My kids would not consider a roast dinner without Yorkshires.

Louella12 Wed 06-Dec-23 20:10:54

No cauliflower cheese on Christmas Day.

However I do add something that many are shocked about. Yorkshire Puddings. I can eat enough of them.
