Oven seal problem

We have a Hotpoint gas cooker
The door seal failed some time ago and we have just fitted a few one
Problem is the door will not close
The tabs on the seal fitted nicely into the holes on the cooker so it and it is the correct seal
We expected it to take a little time to bed in but we can’t close the door to do this
Does anyone have any ideas?

I have got a genuine Neff seal on order, so hope I won't have the same problem. I found a video on how to fit it and it looks easy enough.
I hope yours sorts itself out.
