British cheese exports to Canada in jeopardy.

We do import some Canadian cheese but much less than we send them, so not a lot of leverage in the negotiations. Previously we were included in the EU quota, the EU has not given us back our share of that, they have done a deal with Canada previously for the full quantity.

So we lost our quota share, it’s going to be very difficult to get it back, Canada is under pressure from its dairy farmers not to increase the quantity of imported cheese from all sources, it sounds like the fish quotas all over again.

As long as you don’t have to eat the stuff the Americans call cheese. We have had a lot of American friends in our various postings who used to beg us to bring them back some proper English cheese when we went home on leave!

I returned from France on Wednesday with a cool box of French cheese. I refuse to get het up about the British economy at this time of year.
Here's some of my stash being prepared.

I think ours is expected to be in 'mild recession' for the first quarter of 2024, and I think the Canadian cheese producers are putting pressure on the government to protect their industry, not allowing any increase in imports.

Our economy needs all the help it can muster. It looks very likely that the U.K. is in recession after this current quarters GDP figures are as bad as expected.
