Soft food

For the next couple of weeks I am sticking mainly to soft foods as I have a temporary crown and don’t want to lose it.

Scrambled eggs and fish pie yesterday.
Porridge with soft fruits for breakfast today.
Tuna pasta bake and spag Bol will be easy.
Cauliflower and broccoli in cheese sauce.

But I shall soon run out of ideas.
Suggestions please! Thanks in advance.

I have had to have a soft food diet this week.

I just overcooked my veg a bit, had things like carrot and coriander soup, parsnip and garlic soup., the middle of baked potatoes with cottage cheese. Baked beans were good with sweet potato and are soft and so is cauliflower cheese or broccoli cheese (if you overcook it a bit). Daal is excellent and nutritious - I had mine with brown rice.

I enjoyed soft pears and plums, melon and mango.

The things I missed were breads, ceackers and muesli.
I had flaked almonds cooked in my porridge and also porridge with miso on day 1 as a snack.

Really, you are presumably being asked to eat soft foods - not pureed?

I found it quite easy really.

lovely bramley apples will be easy to stew until whatever texture you find comfortable and of course you could use either fresh or tinned plums to give you something else that you could have with or without custard. Easy to eat and I just use a small amount of sweetener in with the apples so quite virtuous too! Bananas also can be cut up or mashed up and would be easy to eat.

Thanks for the ideas. It is always a delicate balancing act. I have IBS and most veg, except sprouts and cauliflower, see me stable, then I eat or deny myself fruit if I need to compensate one way or another, so my current diet is not great from that point of view, though I am very happy with egg, cheese or fish based dishes which are soft. Too much rice and pasta is not great for blood sugar. It seems I can’t win.
I have no problem swallowing, but I can only chew with one side of my mouth.

Try cooking dates and prunes in apple juice in the microwave then whizzing in the blender. DH was on liquid food for a week and now soft food until August after a horrific accident at the beginning of April, and that sorted the constipation issue!

I sometimes have to go on a soft diet due ro a TMJ dysfunction. Fybogel is useful for adding fibre and as a stool softener. Either the drink or the soft chewy capsules,

Sweet potatoe mash is high in fibre, butternut squash,bubble and squeak with a poached egg, fruit crumble with oats.

Ditto to soups, thick ones with lots of veg, plus red or yellow lentils, pearl barley, pasta, etc. to make it filling enough. Some grated cheese on top is very nice too!

Update: I now need to find ways of getting more fibre, as I am becoming constipated( sorry). I have added more soft fruits to my breakfast porridge( I used to eat granola which worked better for me) and tiny bits of salad which I make sure to chew on one side away from the capped tooth. I am missing veg. Veg in soup doesn’t have the same effect.

Crustless quiche.

Creamed soups.

Blend: Beetroot (can use jars), apple, ginger & natural or Greek Yogurt - a great breakfast "shake" and absolutely incredibly healthy.

Fideos ( tiny Italian noodles ) with a chicken broth ..

Hummus (chickpeas) ..

Nothing too too hot and nothing too too cold.

Yes, I hadn’t realised that I would be getting a temporary crown for three weeks so I am a bit unprepared as far as food is concerned.

I broke a tooth on a salad topping somewhat ironically called "Good4U" . I'm having prep work for a crown at the end of May, with the real thing being fitted a couple of weeks later. This is all very useful, I'll start getting things made and into the freezer!

I will add risotto to my list and look out for orzo pasta as I don’t have any in the house.
Maybe kedgeree tonight?
For lunch I had soup then a mashed banana.
A bonus might be that I lose some more weight.
