DH didn't like fish and is allergic to shellfish but has now decided to try eating more fish.

Anyone suggest any quick yet tasty fish dishes I can try! Not complicated please until we establish whether he will eat them.

Thank you.

Fish topped with a spoonful of pesto is lovely.
Another favourite is a dash of orange juice and a few slices of stem ginger in syrup.
You can use any kind of white fish or salmon and each take about 20 mins to cook

You could try substituting fish for meat in his usual meat dishes, fish pie instead of shepherds pie, salmon fillet instead of steak with chips peas etc, fish stew and curry rather than meat version,.

Curried smoked haddock kedgeree is pretty quick and easy, and doesn’t taste very fishy.
Recipes nearly always include hard boiled eggs but I never see the point of those.

For a quick fish dish I cover a raw fillet with cheese sauce (for GF melt cheese into double cream) in an oven dish. Sprinkle with grated cheese and bake 180C 15-20 minutes in oven or 12 mins in air fryer.

I think I'd try dishes with pieces of fish in with other ingredients rather than present him with a whole fish or a whole fillet of fish.

So the fish pies and stews people have suggested seem like a good starting point.

I'm rather partial to Cullen Skink myself, which is basically a cross between a fish stew and a fish soup with chunks of potato in it. Other veg could be added...

This is my go to recipe when I need a quick fish dish. It's always delicious and you don't really need to flour the fish. You could use your gluten free flour if you want to stick to the recipe though.

Sadly, calli, most ready made fish things also have gluten.

Oh yes, I should have realised.
Should know better!!

Fry a chopped leek. Add 200mls white wine and simmer 10 minutes. Add 2 chopped salmon fillets and a bit more wine; simmer 5-6 minutes. Add 2 tbsp small prawns; simmer 1 minute. Put in a sieve over bowl to let liquid drain off. Put liquid back in pan ; stir in 2-3 tbsp creme fraiche and warm through adding parsley or other herbs if you like. Mix salmon mix and creme fraiche sauce and put in dish. Top with a savoury crumble( 3 ozs ground almonds; 3 ozs plain flour; 1 1/2 ozs butter rubbed in) Bake in Oven 180 C for 25 minutes. Nice with Broccoli

Stir fry a chopped onion and mushrooms, chopped baby corn and red pepper. Add flaked hot-smoked salmon fillets for the last minute or so and serve with flavoured cous cous. Very tasty and easy.

Salmon dish.

Salmon fillets marinated in yogurt, lemon juice, garlic and tomato paste.

Salsa with diced cucumber, tomato and spring onion with lime zest and juice mint and sugar.

Tray bake is always easy. You can vary the vegetables adding the fish for the last 15 minutes. I use bass or brill.

Stir fry with grilled fish, - nice with hake or halibut.

Pan fried fish -say sole - is always nice served with a simple lemon butter sauce. Have it with jersey royals and a green salad. Pretty delicious!

A fish stew is good - so I make it with Mediterranean type vegetable stew and add say pieces of monk fish, prawns etc.

Turbot is another lovely fish if you are feeling flush.

And of course all the lovely shell fish.

My MiL used to bake white fillets of fish in a sort of (savoury) egg custard. I don't know the exact recipe, but it was nice as a light meal.

I like lemon sole, cooked in the way Callistemon21 describes above.
Smoked fish risotto with asparagus, spring onions and white wine all done in the slow cooker is a favourite here.

No new recipes to add, but fish can be cooked very successfully in the microwave, with a knob of butter, and for white fish, some milk to keep it from drying out. The milk can be used to make a sauce, or can be added to mashed potato.

A complete dish eg fish pie can be finished off in an airfryer to save putting the oven on.

I make a sauce with onions, tinned tomatoes, tomato purée, peppers, chorizo cubes and a bit of chilli.Cook until nice and think.
I have half with a grilled fillet of sea bass on top with new potatoes and vegetables.
The other half the next day heated up and mixed with prawns served with linguine.

We had Sea Bass fillets tonight (after a rich meal out last night) with new potatoes and steamed vegetables. Or local asparagus, which we had last week.

Fish fried in butter and olive oil then I squeezed a lemon into the butter and poured over the potatoes. Very simple to prepare.

Smoked haddock with a poached egg on top is nice. Serve it on a bed a spinach and you can call it haddock florentine.

A skinless chunky cod fillet in cheese sauce with grilled cheese on top is nice too.

Or make a basic tomato sauce and poach the cod in that. Serve with saute or scalloped potatoes.

I personally love a prawn curry. If you don't like it too spicy you can add some coconut cream which works very well with prawns.

Just oven cook breaded fish served with mashed potatoes and peas or broccoli is a quick and nutritious meal.

I do a dish with smoked cod or haddock, pop fish in boiling water for a couple of mins whilst I mix cream or creme fraiche with tarragon. fish + cooked spinach + cherry tomatoes in a dish, cover with dollops of tarragon cream and scatter bread crumbs mixed with grated cheese on top. Pop in the oven on a high heat until gratin is nicely toasted. Serve with new potatoes and green veg of choice. So easy and very tasty. I remove the fish skin before putting into dish.

Sea bass fillets, quickly pan fried, with jersey royals and asparagus?
Quick, tasty and light.

Septimia Sun 12-May-24 19:26:00

We've been having kedgeree recently and enjoying it. We've bought smoked basa, which is less expensive as well as skinless and boneless.

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 12-May-24 19:23:28

Smoked haddock poached in crème fraiche on a bed of spinach accompanied by mashed potatoes.

Fish pie - buy a fish pie mix (fresh is nice cervthan frozen, imo), poach it in a white wine & tarragon sauce, you can add peas or sweetcorn if you fancy. Pop into a casserole dish, top with mash, and shove in the oven at 200ish for 20/25 minutes.
