Steak in the air fryer.

Has anyone cooked steak in the air fryer?
I have heard it is a good way to cook it, cleaner obviously but tender and tasty.
I have just tried it as I am in on my own.
It was certainly tender but I found it tasteless and the texture was odd.
Was it my cooking or is griddling as I usually do a far superior cooking method?

Beef burgers also turn out juicy in air fryer.

See- Mama B247 knows the secret😄

We have and by still using the 'Gordan Ramsey' method of steak frying, it turns out lovely- we put small blobs of butter and some salt on one side, (not much salt) then when we want to turn it (according to how well done we like it, or not) we add same on other side.I say 'we' as cooking steak is one of the few foods youngest adult son likes to oversee/take over, and if it passes his steak expert tastebuds, you can be sure its nice!😋

Chicken thighs, skin on, come out crisper & tastier than any other method in the airfryer.& the fat all renders out. But I've never done steak, partly cos I couldn't fit 2 in my AF & they take so little time, any energy saving is minimal. I used to griddle steak but I tend to grill mine now - lifting pan to sear it - my grill gets really hot & I get better results this way, but wouldn't air-fry it.

Try melted butter on each side helps it sear itself in air fryer

I've cooked chicken fillets which turned out lovely, and burgers ,chips and roast potatoes. I wasn't too sure about baking ,but I tried a fruit loaf and it turned out brilliant

yes I have. Depending on which cut 2-5'. Absolutely delish, no loss of moisture.

No, I haven’t cooked a beef steak in mine. I prefer to grill it or fry it on the griddle frying pan. I like the outer crust you get with these methods.
I have cooked pork steaks, chicken breast and fish in the air fryer, with good results.

I have the Cosori Air Fryer Toaster Oven I bought on Amazon a couple of years ago. I've loved it. I've baked pizza, bread, cakes, pies, casseroles, etc --all with success. Looking inside, it's 4 heating elements and a fan. So in my mind, it's more of a mini-convection oven. The elements heat the space and the fan spins the heated air around for more even cooking. It has broil/toaster/bagel settings that seem to heat the upper elements hotter than the lower elements. But it's still just an oven. I wouldn't bake my steak in a regular oven so I haven't in this. It's great to reheat some leftover steak, though.

I've been using my airfryer for a couple of years and love it for oven cook chips. I cooked them in the oven instead the other day and my family said they weren't as good as usual. I find the airfryer is great for reheating roast potatoes too.

I have a ninja grill which cooks steaks beautifully. It has a temperature probe and settings from rare to well done. You just insert the probe into the thickest part of the steak and choose your desired setting.
Or I do it in my frying pan.

Yes, this is what I have and it works beautifully on the grill if it's preheated. I do steak on high and burgers on medium as they shrink too much. I have tried it on the straight airfry setting and didn't find it worked so well.

I haven't tried anything unusual in my air fryer, mostly cook chicken: and lambs hearts for the dog. I would love to have a go at cooking cakes. I did do a steak once but not impressed, much prefer fried or grilled.

I live my AF but it ruins a good steak! Best seasoned well and cooked in a nice hot frying pan.

I like to add steak seasoning to mine and then it is fried. I prefer medium rare.

Did you use a griddle/grill plate?
I have one for my airfryer, it's like the base of a ridged frypan. I think you have to heat it first, not used it myself.

I do mine in the air fryer and it comes out lovely.

Cooks perfectly adequately in the air fryer but not nearly as well as in a frying pan. Mind you you don't get the fat spitting everywhere

Aldom Sun 02-Jun-24 10:33:23

Pork and lamb chops cook beautifully in my Ninja airfrier. Airfry mode is the equivalent of grilling. For steak perhaps preheating the airfrier would produce a better result?

Air fryers do not actually “fry” food so can’t do everything. But like microwaves, what they can do, they do well.

Sadly the only way to cook steak is in a good heavy based frying pan.

This was a fillet from Sainsbury’s which had been in the freezer for some weeks.
It isn’t something I will try again.

Tenko Sat 01-Jun-24 21:45:23

I haven’t and I wouldn’t as I like my steak rare and nicely charred . I use a cast iron griddle and it doesn’t take long . Plus I like a ribeye or filet which is expensive and I wouldn’t risk it.

annsixty Sat 01-Jun-24 19:41:44

It was the searing on the outside that was missing.
I shan’t do it again.
