It's like eating a book

I really like the idea of wraps, burritos etc as it's a quick and easy option for some good healthy and delicious fillings. However all the wraps and suchlike I've tried are like eating a book - does anyone have any suggestions for some more enjoyable ones?

I’ve decided I don’t have to like wraps, I don’t like the flavours or the dry sticky feel. Give me a well made sandwich on good bread any day

But it has to be proper bread, not the stuff supermarkets sell.

Paninis, filled with whatever you like and toasted in a panini press, are much tastier than wraps.

I like wraps and I also like sandwiches. A different eating experience with each. smile

I find it a good way to eat salad. Makes it more filling and it makes me chew my food more ( a la Nuts in May). I mix lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, grated cheese and carrot with mayonnaise and add tuna or chicken. I must admit I had one last week (M&S) and the wrap did taste like raw pastry so I think it’s down to where you buy them from. They are very high fat, though, so not the healthiest thing to eat.

I thought the thread might be about Alphabetti Spaghetti. Which used to keep my lot concentrating on their lunch while looking for the letters in their names.

I too have tried to like wraps. Toasted, untoasted, cold, hot.

And I don't.

This thread reminds me of a conversation had with a friend many many years ago. We were talking about olives, I said I wasn’t keen, she said ‘I don’t like them either but if you keep eating them you find they’re sort of ok!’ I thought afterwards why would you continue to eat something you didn’t like.

I admit I prefer a sandwich over a wrap.

We quite often have tortilla wraps with home-made chilli, salad and a little grated cheese inside.

That's the way I feel about pizza!
I don't understand the attraction of doughy flatbread, tomato gloop and stringy cheese with assorted half-cooked bits on top. Give me a decent, well-filled sandwich on fresh bread every time.

I agree. I don’t like them either.
I would much rather have a sandwich made with wholemeal,
(not just brown) seeded bread.

I am also not a fan of pasta. I much prefer the flavour of potatoes, roasted, mashed, sautéed, new potatoes like Jersey Royals tossed in a little butter.
All delicious!
It’s a good job we are all different though isn’t it?

Its like eating cardboard so I dismantle them and eat the filling!

You can also make quesadillas with them that we find tasty.
Lay them flat spread with tomato salsa/tomato purée/Passata or ketchup top with whatever filling, herbs and cheese. Put 2nd wrap on top and cook in a frying pan. Just play around with the recipe it’s quite versatile.

Thank you for all the ideas - I have several things to try now smile

Why do you want to try to like them? They are more processed and higher in calories and carbs than bread.

I use them to make samosa type things, I only really like them cooked as something or at least hot.

I warm them in the microwave just before using them, then spread some mayo before adding the filling.
We had chicken/peppers/mushroom and avocado wraps yesterday, added a bit of chilli sauce so they are nice and moist.

Baggs

I certainly wouldn't eat anything again if, after a first try, I thought it was like eating a book. Healthy eating can go to hell if it's unappetising.

Post of the day Baggs - I’m 75 and I’m loving butter on Warburton’s thick white toastie bread. Didn’t eat it for years but now - why not 😁

While we’re at it, I don’t have to like quinoa or sushi either😄

Same here, tasty crusty bread or baguette or rolls.

Everyone likes my wraps. I use butter when appropriate but mainly full fat cream cheese which I do not believe to be an unhealthy option. It adds moisture as well as being more filling in the sense of keeping one unhungry for longer. My other main ingredients were usually Parma ham and a sprinkle of kale which I'd zapped for a few seconds in the microwave.

I chop kale up quite fine and freeze it, then just take out what I need as and when.

Get yourself a Crimpit - they're great for making wraps, and you can do them either hot or cold.

My grandchildren love soft tortilla wraps filled with their favourite fillings. I find them much tastier if the filled wrap is slightly toasted on both sides on a hot dry pan.

If there are couple of unused wraps languishing in a pack I tear them into strips, spray lightly with olive, a grind of sea salt and into the air fryer for a couple of mins till crispy. Delicious with a dip 😋
