There's a YouTube channel called IHackedDiabetes that has some quite nice recipes - I use it because they are low carb and I like to watch people making a dish before I do.

www.youtube.com/@ihackeddiabetes

If you're not keen on YouTube he has a website with the recipes but of course you can't see him making them

Fernbergien a decent sourdough is a good substitute for low GI bread. Better still frozen and then toasted so I’ve been told.

I brought a book off Amazon recommended by NanKate for counting cals. It's supported by Diabetes UK. The book I have is Carb & Calorie Counter but there is a series of books including cook book by Chris Cheyette & Yello Balolia.

Not sure if it was mentioned in the article ( I did glance at it) but it’s important, if you use a lot of Cinnamon to buy Ceylon cinnamon.

Cinnamon has been seen to have a positive effect for people with diabetes type 2. Not just cinnamon, apparently other stuff like garlic, black seeds, fennel seeds also.

Side point, I remember once someone talking about a dish that was primarily garlic in it. - Not something that sounds too wonderful, but it was apparently really good. Look for dishes like that too perhaps to supplement a good healthy diet?

Oh about the cinnamon, black seeds, fennel seeds, here's the source: www.seylany.com/en/cinnamon-and-diabetes-how-cinnamon-can-help/

NHS website for diabetes is just sensible advice and recipes. Adapt for special occasions it does not have to be complicated either.

Get yourself a blood sugar monitor to check your levels. Am going to go back to doing that in the New Year. My friend’s teenage son has T1 and low carbs as that’s what’s been recommended to him.

May I ask how you check your blood sugar levels? I have recently been told I'm pre diabetic. The GP wasn't fussed but I am and I want to manage my blood sugar levels by diet but how would you know if you can't check? I have suddenly realised that sugar is a real problem, I'm instantly getting sharp, painful joints especially in my thumbs.

I've thought about ZOE and I see that you can get various monitors but the thought of endlessly pricking my finger before and after meals is difficult, hence I'm asking for advice. Thanks.

Low carb is mainly for Type2 diabetes it is not so suitable for Type1. Having had type 1 for 38yrs it is really just a case of trial and error and doing your best. No one can be perfect all the time.

I eat low carb and it has kept my blood sugar and therefore diabetes in check for eight years now. There are loads of books around for low carb cooking. Start in your library.

Ahh apologies for that. I guess folk have to go to www.diabetes.co.uk and sign up which is free and use the above link from there. Seasons greetings all.

I have just clicked on the link and you have to register to read anything so it is not an open forum

I know what you mean my blood sugar is on the high side of normal and I want it lower. Can’t see the recipes as you need to log in.

I really need to reduce my blood sugars which is ridiculously hard this time of year for someone with little to no will power. I thought I would share these meal plans and cook books from the diabetes website which I hope will inspire. www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/download-18-free-meal-plans-and-cookbooks.190766/
