Apple and mincemeat crumble

We gave a (nowadays very rare) dinner party the other day, for a neighbour who’s leaving. I don’t do fancy cooking for guests (or anybody!) any more, so pudding was a big apple crumble. However there was half a jar of Delia’s mincemeat left in the fridge - it was fairly solid so I warmed it up in the microwave, easy to mix with the slightly cooked apples.

I’ve had apple/mincemeat crumble before, first in a pub, and did once make it some years ago, but had forgotten how well they go together.
Nearly everybody had seconds!

PS, main course was baked gammon with parsley sauce, lots of mash, green veg, in case anybody’s wondering. Fairly easy/low stress.

Sounds lovely. Good idea to put the mincemeat in. I’ve got a jar of some that has been in the larder for a couple of years now ( sealed) . Wonder if it would still be ok?

Did you save us leftovers? Sounds delicious!

I used the quote function improperly. Wrong person quoted.

I’d use it! From experience, mincemeat keeps for ages.

I make apple and mincemeat crumble from time to time, also tart. Mincemeat keeps for years!

Many years ago I did once make an apple and mincemeat pie when we had friends for dinner.

Whether it was down to too many G&Ts beforehand I wouldn’t care to say, but just after I’d taken it out of the oven, the whole thing slid off the plate, into the dog’s bed! 😱

It’s one of my favourite crumbles and a great way of using up any brandy butter from the freezer.

Far too sweet to my taste. Big family do tomorrow and it will be apple crumble with a tad of cinnamon sugar.

I had some stewed rhubarb in the freezer and a big jar of mincemeat in the cupboard so I made a rhubarb and mincemeat crumble. We had custard with it and clean plates all round.

Delia has an apple and mincemeat steamed pudding recipe.

Food for the gods!

It’s even better made as a tart, and served with double cream.😃
