Having wrestled on many occasion with these so called stock pots Trying to peel the lids off is an impossibility. I have now gone back to good old Oxo cubes. Anyone else felt the same.

They'll probably decide that gets aluminium in the Oxo & change the Oxo-opening guidelines next year 😊

Oxo are often not as crumbly as they once were. Maybe some additive that’s now been removed?

Visgir1 Fri 14-Mar-25 15:20:26

Am I the only one who can't crumble the Chicken stock cubes? They are like concrete! Mortar and pestle deployed.... Stock pots I like M&S ones best.

Run a knifee round the edges, problem solved. Where have you been living, under a stone?

You have once again misunderstood the post and once again responded in a very rude manner.

Tried stockpots and wasn't impressed. Can't use oxo due to allergy of an ingredient, but have found a store label stock cube which is a good substitute.

Marigolds and Marigold.
Simples.

I thought 'marigold' were kitchen gloves. I have heard of 'everything but the kitchen sink' but marigolds in soup.

My apologies for a facetious post, I had a late night last night after waiting nearly 2 hours to get through passport control at Portsmouth.

Another who uses Marigold most of the time, particularly for soups but do use stock pots as well. Have not tried the wine ones, did not know they existed. OH does most of the shopping now I can no longer drive because of eye problems and I don’t get to see what’s new in the stores. I do get to our nearest Aldi because I can get a bus outside but their range is limited.

Either, both have their uses.

Smintie Thu 13-Mar-25 21:18:11

I use the Potts tins. Beef and chicken stocks are very good. Tins are ringpulls, so very easy to open and no plastic. They are also not salty like many stock cubes.

Kallo stock cubes

mumofmadboys Thu 13-Mar-25 20:44:18

Does anyone else use Sainsburys stock cubes?

kittylester Thu 13-Mar-25 20:31:00

Worcestershire sauce isn't gf. I use Henderson's Relish

Caro41 Thu 13-Mar-25 18:27:53

Having a son with cœliac I prefer stock pots because they are gluten free whereas OXO cubes are not .

Liaise Thu 13-Mar-25 18:05:23

We use Marigold stock as DH is gluten intolerant also Free from gravy granules and Worcester sauce. The occasional glas of red wine helps the flavour.

Cateq Thu 13-Mar-25 16:09:40

When I use OXO cubes I pull out the four little corner and crush the cube which means less mess when adding to the dish. Couldn’t be bothered going back to the sprinkling between my fingers

Marigold Swiss Vegetable Bouillon for me - recommended by Delia Smith many, many years ago!!! DS is vegetarian although I am not but he often pops in and we swop soups as he uses a lot of spices and as long as not too spicy I'm fine with them but tend to make more traditional soups so we have a wide selection to choose from.

PS: He uses Knorr Vegetarian Stocks but complains about the ever rising prices!

Rose56 Thu 13-Mar-25 15:20:55

Marigold boullion powder, the vegan one is lactose free

Baggs Thu 13-Mar-25 15:17:37

I generally use the meat juices and a bit of salt when making gravy, same as my mum did. Cornflour to thicken if necessary.

MrB likes Gallo stock cubes.

Baggs Thu 13-Mar-25 15:15:59

Ooh! That's something I must try, grannbuy!

grannybuy Thu 13-Mar-25 15:03:57

For gravy, I use Marmite, a little tomato purée and a couple of squares of dark chocolate.
For vegetable stock, I sometimes use Marigold stock powder.

PamQS Thu 13-Mar-25 14:32:16

My son swears by Stock Pots, but I found them a bit fiddly (and expensive, TBH).

My mum believed Knorr Stock cubes were the height of luxury, so if I'm looking for flavour that's what I buy.

My DH went mad one Christmas and bought gravy granules to go with the turkey, which I didn't fancy at all.

eddiecat78 Thu 13-Mar-25 07:42:54

A friend asked her husband to buy some "chicken Oxo". He came home with a whole chicken and some beef stock cubes
