…because after a very busy time generally, it has been more or less sprung on me (though I did agree) that some of dh’s extended family from abroad will be coming for lunch tomorrow.

We could have met them at a restaurant, but the party will also include a young baby and a toddler, so from experience it’ll be easier here. They’re all very nice, but I was really looking forward to a nice peaceful weekend. 😩

I will not actually be cooking anything, except that I might make some garlic bread. I’ve decided on fresh pasta and ready made sauces, ready made salads and puds.
And dh will be coming with me, to do porter duty. 🙂

Very wise. Make it easy and have a much better time with your relatives.

Well, at least you know they are coming! My husband often brought a friend home without warning and expected me to provide for him. It stopped when I gave the man my husband's meal and said that was all I had.

Yes, not that it’d make any difference, since all the money is ‘ours’.

Sounds like an excellent plan Witzend; enjoy your get together tomorrow.

I love the fresh pasta sauces, I’d throw a few of their desserts in too

I am right behind you Wizend.........why make work when you can buy lovely food ready prepared. Enjoy!

I always do a buffet lunch when I have all the family here, most of it ready prepared, so that they can pick and choose and I can enjoy their visit and not be stressed.

I won’t even be making garlic bread now - God bless M&S for having a 2 pack all ready to shove in the oven, as well as everything else. 🙂
And the bill was a lot less than if we’d gone to a restaurant, since I know dh would (as usual) have insisted on footing the entire bill.
