My meals are very monotonous because I don't eat meat and I don't want to eat spices (for GERD management). Any ideas?

There are plenty of interesting, flavoursome vegetarian recipes using herbs rather than strong spices.

I haven't eaten meat for 40 years and dislike chilli. I have a hiatus hernia but don't restrict my diet particularly.

Chicken is meat Cossy

Well, sometimes people don’t include chicken as meat as it’s fowl, I have a friend who does eat chicken, turkey and fish, but not pork, beef, venison, lamb etc.

Well it’s still meat off a living creature, whether it lives in the sky, the sea or on the land,…….it’s meat

My GD is a pescatarian. I asked her why she doesn’t want to eat meat, but thought fish was ok.

Her answer “But I like fish!”.

🤷‍♀️

How are you with whole grains?
Brown rice dishes such as risotto
Whole pastas?
Quinoa I think is well tolerated.

Roasted vegetables tossed in a little olive oil first.
Lentils vean based soups?

If you have had this a while I suppose you know what triggers you personally.

What can't you tolerate- other than the obvious fatty/creamy foods and "quick" sugars/carbohydrates?
Alternatively, what can you eat easily?

I have been vegetarian (or vegan) for over 50 years. I don't feel my meals are monotonous (though realise I don't have reflux issues).

So....fish is meat?
I think you mean flesh, which applies to fowl also.

Wishing you luck with that - as it's a problem I've got currently and am having heartburn EVERY SINGLE DAY at the moment for a while now - grrr.

I've had to basically give up alcohol - as I've found that's quite a trigger. I think in my case a lot of it boils down I'm still currently 3 sizes too big - and so there's pressure on that area from the excess weight.

Right now - I'm just starting on the Modern Rice Diet (ie I went off to investigate what the rice diet is when someone mentioned it on here). Cue for there's two versions - the Rice Diet and the Modern Rice Diet. Ain't even gonna try the original Rice Diet - but I've been out stocking up on ingredients for the Modern Rice Diet. That was followed by working out a meal plan for it - should serve two purposes 1. Lose that excess weight finally 2. Help cure the GERD.

I've got a second string to that bow too - and have just started seeing an acupuncturist for various health issues and told her the GERD is top of the list to get rid of (ie once and for all). So she's very gentle and uses really tiny needles (unlike one or two previous ones - where I couldnt go more than once - as they were being heavyhanded with needles and I loathe needles with a passion).

Might be worth you checking both out?
