Jam tarts!

I used to make jam tarts havent done so since my children were small. I’ll have to make some.

How d’lishus Witzend 😋. I make all my jams slightly tart and especially so my lemon curd and whenever I have leftover pastry make a jam roll or tarts which never last long out of the oven!

Funny that you should make jam tarts. Just yesterday I made a jam turnover with pastry left over from an apple pie.
Mine was the last of a jar of raspberry jam.

I always do that with my leftover pastry, but DH does not get a look in

I made my first ever summer pudding because because friends came to dinner yesterday. Very easy to make and delicious (thank you Mary Berry). My friend said it was like eating a lovely big jam sandwich with ice cream.

Jam tarts were the first thing I ever cooked. Saturday afternoon with my mum. I remember eating them in front of a coal fire with my dad when he came home from football.

DH is a strange man. He made his mother give him a note to excuse him from jam tarts at school as he hated the pastry!

The other day I had some pastry left over from making a quiche - not enough to do much else with except chuck it out for the birds. For some reason I had a lot of blackcurrant jam / slightly tart - so that's what went in them.
I don’t think I’ve had a jam tart since I was a child, but they were very nice! Dh very nobly helped me to see off 9 of them. 🙂

I haven’t made any since the kids were young, but now I think of it, they’re very nice indeed with a cuppa, tho I couldn’t manage 9.

I always make jam tarts at Christmas as my DD hates mince pies!

I too made a summer pudding for a dinner party once. It looked and smelled delicious but I can’t bring myself to eat bread soaked in any sort of liquid (it’s why, if DH wanted his beloved bread pudding he had to make it himself!) - the thought of it turns my stomach - so I did’t eat any. Didn’t bother anyone else though😁!

Loved homemade jam tarts ..blackcurrant and gooseberries from the garden..what a memorable time from childhood 😊

Mum used to make a large open tart filled with lemon curd and we had it with hot custard as a pud, it was 🥰

Haven't made jam tarts for years ! You have made me think about baking some now. 😋

A quote in a cookery book that was a fundraiser for dds’ first school (illustrations etc. by the kids) said, ‘Isn’t it funny how clean your hands get when you’re making pastry?’ 😂

I must be the only one on here who sees 'Jam Tarts' and instantly thinks of football!

I don’t recall being mad about them, either, but that’s probably because the jam was (to me anyway) over-sweet strawberry. My mother had a very sweet tooth! Black currant is IMO far preferable.

Oh, what a nice memory! When Mum made pies, there was usually an apple pie, a cherry pie, and a few jam tarts for a treat after school. She had a tart tray with rounded bottoms, which I haven't seen since.

I made my GC some jam tarts today after reading this, they loved them.

Some were made with confectionary jam as it was called and were not nice like home made ones.

With left over pastry I roll it out, sprinkle currants on it, wet the edges and roll it up into a cylinder. Bake for 15 minutes or until brown. Delicious. Mum always did this when I was a child.

My mum sometimes made jam tarts with coconut sprinkled on top, she also made a golden syrup/ treacle tart sprinkled with cornflakes. 😋😋😋
