Apparently the bread isn't bog standard white, it is sweetened brioche. Also the 'cream' is cream cheese based, and the strawberries are marinated.

In the 70s I lodged with a widow for a term when I went to university. Monday evening puddings was a jam and cream sandwich, to use the cream left from her Sunday lunch with the family!

When my children were small, I used to make chocolate bread, which we sliced, spread with mascarpone and sliced strawberries. It was their favourite treat in summer, when our strawberries were ripe.

I might make a chocolate loaf this weekend, if I can find the recipe 😊

I admit to eating jam and clotted cream sandwiches.

As a child we used to have that for breakfast occasionally.

My MIL used to put a bit of clotted cream on her breakfast cereal every morning.

Many years ago she used to make her own.

Yes the milk was scalded every day left to get cold and the cream skimmed off the top. We can’t do it now because the milk is pasteurised. Our milk came from Monica - who had a farm. She delivered the milk in churns in a black van that smelt of milk. We used to go out to get our jugs filled.

I’m gluten free, but we bought one when we went up to see my parents last week, and my son, sister and mum and dad had quarter each, just to try it. They all liked it.

I also prefer savoury, but pie, mash, and liquor sounds revolting to me, so I would not try it.

Nooo!!, it looks nice but I know that the texture will be truly ruddy awful. Particularly if it's made with a bog-standard uninspiring white-sliced bread. It's fine for a lovely bread & butter pud though.

No, not for me, I'm afraid. I don't do 'sweet' sandwiches - and that includes things like jam, banana and so on. Sandwiches are a strictly savoury affair for me.

Worth a try but it does not really appeal to me.

I think it's quite a novel idea for the summer, inspired by sweet sandwiches that emanate in Japan, I think I read somewhere. I haven't tried one, there's been a lot of hype around it, a bit like Dubai Chocolate that seems to be the 'must taste of the moment' if it can be found, I haven't tried that either. Going back to the sandwich looks delicious, I gather the bread is sweet like brioche.

One of my favourite sandwiches it Stilton and strawberry. I read about it winning a competition years ago and had to try it.
