New recipe - why?

I've just started a fresh box of All Bran, they have changed the recipe. It's now in long thick strands which taste of cardboard. Why is there a need to make everything new and improved, clearly hasn't worked in this case. Of course my husband bought three boxes.

Ha, ha, ha, sorry I just had to laugh. Think it is called Sod's Law. Or, from the manufacturer ' Customer Research '. In other words, cutting costs.

I'm glad it's not just me sodapop! It's tasteless, and look at the colour. It's gone very grey.

Crunchy Bran is very nice, made by Weetabix. Works a treat too!

The website is awash with complaints all saying the same thing escaped
Apparently less energy is needed at the factory to produce the new version.

I prefer bran flakes, perhaps try those, I don’t think they have changed the recipe recently.

Just had the same problem with Oatibix. Used to be soft and yummy and delicious now it’s big flakes and crumbs in the packet. Hard to differentiate from Weetabix but less tasty …. I wrote to complain about the recipe change, to be fair they replied immediately but I know nothing will change. It’s all about ‘no red traffic lights’ on the box. Removed sugar I presume but it’s the texture as well …. Another pleasure denied…

The less sugar, less salt, smaller packets/boxes, means we are paying increasing amounts of money for less rather than more.

I buy M&S Bran Sticks, cheaper and tastes good, as do their wheat biscuits, much cheaper than Weetabix.

You can always make an All Bran loaf with it.… equal quantities of AB, prune juice, mixed fruit, leave to soak about an hour then add SR flour, and. Pinch of salt. Throw into a greased loaf tin and bake first 45 mins. Slather with butter. Job done!

Blinko Tue 02-Sept-25 15:02:47

Sorry, should proof read. …bake for 45 minutes.

Happygirl79 Tue 02-Sept-25 15:11:03

It's all about making the product cheaper for the manufacturer and making more profit without consideration for the customers who like it just as it was.

And …. What’s happened to Yorkie bars? We’ve always been partial, but the last pack tasted stale and soft, even though they were in the fridge, not at all nice. We’ll have to find another favourite. 😇

I gave up with bran. I now have 7 prunes a day either in porridge, Greek yoghurt or on shredded wheat. Works very well

Esmay Tue 02-Sept-25 17:57:44

It always did - taste of cardboard !
So now it's even worse ?
Yuk !

My DH has been moaning about the change in All Bran since he opened a new box last week.
I’ll get him the M&S one you mention Jaxjacky.

I've eaten it for 30 years and it's the only thing that keeps things moving reliably. I don't love it but it does the job.
The new recipe tastes like the supermarket own brand stuff. Even worse it gives me terrible wind. Bran flakes aren't as effective ime.
